Grab this amazing opportunity to volunteer with horses at a rescue center near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. This rescue center is currently home to more than 170 horses, most of which were rescued from the Slaughter House.
The project needs dedicated and committed volunteers to help with the many tasks and activities at the center. Although the 40-acre farm currently focuses more specifically on horses, you can also enjoy the firsthand experience of working with a variety of livestock including pigs, llamas, goats, ducks, chickens and much more. As a volunteer, you would be tasked with preparation of feed and feeding of horses and other animals and maintenance and repairs to assisting the vet and cleaning the paddocks. The work can be physically demanding and the animals at the farm will be your number one priority. Care and give love to horses that have suffered abuse and neglect in the past and experience the wonderful surroundings of the farm. NO horse riding at this program.

The volunteer project is in Alberta at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. With its proximity to the Rocky Mountains, this area gives volunteers great opportunities for adventures. There are parks, trails and a variety of recreation facilities for you to enjoy.
Requirements:
- Required to commit to a minimum of 8 weeks
- Must have experience in horse handling and care. No animal allergies as well.
- Must be comfortable with heavy lifting and doing manual labour
- NO SMOKING is allowed on the property.
- Strong work ethics are required: reliable, responsible, polite, self-sufficient, eager, honest, good sense of humor, dependable, physically and mentally fit.
- Age: 18+
- Extreme Weather (heat & cold), dirt and living in a remote area must be something you can handle.
- A love for animals and some general experience of caring for an animal is a must and Patient and comfortable around mammals and birds
- Must read and agree to abide by guidelines and ethics of the project
- Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and good knowledge of the English
- A valid driver’s license would be an asset, but is not required
Tagesablauf
Volunteers play a vital role in achieving the project’s goal of caring and giving the much-needed love to horses and other animals that have suffered abuse and neglect in the past. As a volunteer, you will at times get your hands dirty. Please remember that the animals are your number one priority while you are at the project. There is always something to do at the rescue center. If you are uncertain of what to do, you can ask an experienced volunteer and the volunteer task list. There is NO horse riding at this program. Your responsibilities will vary on a day to day basis and you may be involved in:
- Food preparation and Feeding of horses and other livestock
- Checking physical condition of the horses
- Rehabilitation horse
- Grooming
- Vet/Farrier Assistance
- Filling Feed bins and Loading/unloading hay or feed
- Fence repair and Cleaning paddocks (manure pick up).

Freizeitaktivitäten
The area gives volunteers great opportunities for adventures during their days off. They can go climbing the rocky mountains, or explore the parks and trails while enjoying sightseeing on the rural Canada. Also during the winter volunteers can go skiing. However, leisure activities are at the volunteers expense.

Voraussetzungen
Um an diesem Programm teilzunehmen, musst du zu Programmbeginn mindestens 18 Jahre alt sein. Es kann Ausnahmen geben, wenn du die Erlaubnis deines/r Erziehungsberechtigten vorlegen kannst oder wenn du von deinen Eltern begleitet wirst
Du brauchst folgende Sprachkenntnisse: Englisch (Fortgeschritten)
CV, Resume, Letter of Motivation und Two pics and Signed Policies and Liability form (provided during application process)

- Accommodation: Accommodation will be in the guest house at the farm.
- Transportation to get groceries is provided.
- Airport Pickup: You will be picked up from either Calgary or Edmonton Airport.
- Mail-holding service: You can use FRONTEERINGS office as a reliable address to have your mail delivered.
- Ongoing service and 24/7 Emergency Contact
Not included:
- Meals Not included. You are responsible for your own meals.
You will arrive in beautiful Calgary or Edmonton where you will be met at the airport by a member of the project.
You will stay in the guest home which includes one bedroom, kitchen, living/dining area. The accommodation is rustic and clean with standard house furniture and accessories in it.
Things to bring from home: Please prepare yourself for all kinds of weather. Bring gloves, sturdy footwear is a must (preferably waterproof), and clothes you don't mind getting dirty (as all the animals will love to brush up against you and say hello!). There is a volunteer clubhouse on site with washroom, kitchen facilities and a library. You can bring books and magazines you would like to share/donate. While at the project, you will need to bring your own food and drinks (bring adequate water and stay hydrated!), as breaks throughout the day are important.

Ins Ausland zu gehen ist ein Abenteuer, auf das man sich stets gut vorbereiten sollte. Plötzliche Krankheit oder Verletzung, Stornierung oder Diebstahl - eine Reiseversicherung für Kanada bietet die nötige Sicherheit.
Bevor du deine Freiwilligenarbeit in Kanada antrittst, solltest du dich noch einmal von deinem Arzt beraten lassen und deine erforderlichen Impfungen für Kanada überprüfen.
