The main aim of this project is to work with local women and help underprivileged communities develop socially and economically. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Alter 18+
Microfinance Program

The innovation of microfinance has allowed low income individuals, usually excluded from the traditional banking system, to obtain micro-loans to develop micro-enterprises and build savings. The aim of the microfinance project is to contribute towards sustainable economic development by providing local individuals, groups and communities with the proper skills training and micro-loans to grow their businesses, create new jobs and help break the cycle of poverty and hunger. This project seeks to unlock the potential of micro finance services and tools as mechanisms for helping rural poor in Uganda leap over insurmountable hurdles that have been hindering them from achieving their dreams of a sustainable livelihood. This is where you come in!

What will I be doing?
As a Micro-Finance Volunteer you will work directly work with the rural communities to provide technical support and training to small local businesses (Small Medium Enterprise - SME) and help entrepreneurs in order to secure their means of a livelihood and develop a sustainable future for themselves. These enterprises include craft market vendors,  pig and poultry farming, soap making, baking goods, local tourist guides, fruit sellers, horticulture initiatives, and community associations.
1-You will perform tasks such as helping to develop business plans, developing marketing strategies, conducting workshops, providing business guidance and support, and more.
2-You will help to establish facilities for credit such as the Village Saving and Lending Association (VSLA)) in order to enable underdeveloped and poor communities to expand.

Volunteers will perform tasks such as reading though business plans, developing marketing strategies, conducting workshops, providing business guidance and support, and more.

Here are some of the tasks volunteers can expect to do during thier placement:

1-Assist with marketing-related work, like writing articles, making brochures, and organising events
2- Guide business development and do administration work
3-Coordinate fundraising efforts to raise money for local businesses
4- Plan and conduct market research for local community members
5- Host business workshops with local women.

When you arrive at work on your first day, you will be introduced to staff who will be able to advise and support you during your placement. Our staff are also available to guide you throughout your stay.

As a volunteer, your work will be focused on fundraising, marketing, and local business and staff development. This can translate into various tasks, like drawing up a business plan for a struggling entrepreneur, or building relationships with sponsors to bring in more funding for the NGO.

During this placement, you are expected bring your own laptop to work on. This is also a professional internship, so you’re expected to be punctual and hard-working.

A Day In The Life Of A Volunteer:
Here is an example of a typical weekday at the project.
This serves as a guideline only and we ask that volunteers stay flexible as itineraries may change to best serve the community.

Rise and shine! Volunteers wake up early to start a great day. Take breakfast of cereals, bread, tea or coffee. Refreshed and nourished you are ready for your project work.

Travel to the project! It typically takes 15-30 minutes to reach your volunteer assignment.

Dig into the project! You do your volunteering job assignment.

Lunch break! You will return to your home-base or host family for a delicious lunch. If the distance is too great, youll enjoy the box lunch you brought with you.

Finish up your volunteer project work! Theres always plenty to do.

End your work day and enjoy your leisure time! You can rest, explore the local area, hang out with other volunteers, study or plan for the next day, whatever you want! This is your time to spend it how you like.

Dinner at your volunteer house! After dinner, youre free to continue your local explorations before settling down for the night, thinking ahead for another fun, busy day.

Saturday & Sunday
This is the time to enjoy safaris with our beautiful country, exploring Uganda and its many attractions.

Known as the Pearl of Africa, Uganda is a wealth of attraction that spoils any visitor for choice and a single visit is never enough to discover the wonders it offers. Being a destination untouched by mass tourism, you can sure experience an air of expectancy in the national parks teaming with wildlife and magic in the mountains. Uganda offers a rich, genuine, cultural experience that gives visitors a feel of the real Africa. This makes Uganda one of the most thrilling African safari destinations!

For three days you can undertake a safari that ushers you in the vast Bwindi Impenetrable National for Gorilla Trekking or the Murchison Falls National Park for Uganda Wildlife Tour or the famous Queen Elizabeth National Park for Uganda Bird Watching, or the Kibale National Park for Uganda Chimpanzee Trekking. We also offer a range of mountain climbing trips, from Mt Ruwenzori, to Mt Elgon, to Mt Mgahinga!  The adventures will provide you with a break from your project, a chance to see your host country from a different perspective, and time maybe live out a few dreams.

Airport Pick-up
Volunteers will be met by our program coordinator at Entebbe International Airport in Entebbe town upon arrival after which you will be transferred to your project site. If volunteer's project placement is in Kampala, you will be transferred direct to your project site after being picked up from the airport. If a volunteer's project is in Fort Portal, you will spend the night in Kampala at the Guest Inn and transport you to our project site the next day.
While at your project site, you will stay in a Safe, clean, comfortable volunteer guest house where you will be allocated a private room shared with another volunteer of the same sex. The accommodation is regarded as more than adequate considering the normal standards of Uganda.
Each room is furnished with twine bed Style Rooms with bedding with mosquito nets, and other amenities though we recommend the volunteers to bring their own sleeping bags and other accessories necessary to their personal comfort or for any trips away.

Shared Bathrooms with Warm/cool shower & western toilet.
Working Kitchen with Utensils, cutlery, kettle, Gas Hob, Refrigerator, kettle

 Lounge Area
Wi-Fi Internet access (The Wi-Fi attract a weekly fee of UGX100,000. Please note, internet access can be temperamental in rural Uganda)

As a volunteer, you will be expected to maintain a reasonable standard of cleanliness in your rooms/surroundings. This would include keeping your living space clean and tidy as well as your personal hygiene to a high standard. Daily showers/ washes are recommended as well as ensuring clothing is washed regularly. Bedding is provided, however, you will be responsible for washing your personal laundry.  Each guest house is allocated a house keeper who looks after the house and prepares all the meals for the volunteers.

More than likely you will not lay eyes on a washing machine or dryer during your stay. You therefore have the following options: pay to have your clothes hand-washed by locals (people are more than happy for the opportunity to make some money for their children's school fees and they are very honest) or hand-wash your own clothes. Usually, drying is a matter of a few hours. You will probably employ both methods by the end of the trip. However, Ugandans do not generally wash other peoples underwear. Neither option will be convenient at all times, so some people may need to increase their threshold for what they consider dirty. Bring some plastic bags for your dirty clothes and you can buy washing powder such as OMO once you arrive in Uganda. We have a lady who can help to wash and iron your clothes for a small fee). Please check with the house keeper when you want your clothes to be washed).  If possible you can bring a towel and washcloth which you can leave behind.
Einzelzimmer Doppelzimmer
No adventure would be complete without getting to taste the local cuisine, and on each of our volunteer adventures this is exactly what we want you to do. All meals will be served at the volunteers guest house. Ugandan food is tasty, diverse and volunteers can expect to experience flavors and meals during their volunteer experience. You will be provided with 3 meals a day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). If you wish to eat or drink outside of meal times, that will be at your own cost. There are local shops within the villages where you can buy snacks (among other things). Breakfast is served at around 8am, lunch at 1:00pm and dinner is served between 7:00pm -8:00pm. These are usually buffet style with chilled boiled water and soft drinks. Tea and coffee is served in the late afternoons (5pm).

Breakfast food choices generally include tea, coffee, bread with jam, margarine, or peanut butter and some type of egg (boiled or scrambled). For lunch and dinner, there is a revolving menu of dishes which include beans, rice, sautéed cabbage, avocado, potatoes, noodles, cooked spinach, sautéed eggplant, etc.  Chicken and beef dishes are served several times a week.  Starchy foods (i.e. white bread, potatoes, white rice, pasta, matoke (boiled bananas) manioc, and cassava) are dietary staples so youll have no shortage of carbs.  Also, the countrys tropical climate contributes to a healthy choice of fruits which include bananas, watermelon, papayas, mangos, jackfruit, and pineapples.

Vegetarians can eat well here, but the variety of dishes will be limited and you may get bored of the same old, same old.  Your main sources of protein would be the beans at lunch or dinner and the eggs at breakfast. If this will not be sufficient for you, you may want to bring along some protein supplements. However, we need to stress the point that you should not expect to eat as you normally do at home. We will do our best to see that you are well taken care of, but also as a volunteer, there is a need to be flexible. If you have special eating needs, please let us know ahead of time so that we can make arrangements for you.
