The volunteer will create the social media content for our organization, displaying products, keeping our followers updated with our news, and provide cultural snapshots. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Alter 18+
Alleinreisend
Pärchen
50+
Volunteers needed to run our social media accounts, and create content for our online platforms such as Pinterest, the newsletter, the blog, Instagram, Facebook, and our website. Experience with photography, communications, or technology is helpful.

Trama Textiles supports over 400 weavers in Guatemala. These women create traditional, handwoven pieces every day, and our social media helps us share with the world the work they have done, and in turn provides a steady income for these women. Through our use of social media, our customers can see where our products come from, the stories behind them, and the importance of their purchases in the lives of these women and their families. Trama Textiles provides fair wages for the women we work with, which can only be done through effective advertising through our social media platforms and websites. We strive to include a cultural background to our products in each of our posts, showing our customers that there’s more to the product than meets the eye. The Guatemalan culture is very rich, and is unfortunately being lost as time goes on. Through working with traditional Guatemalan weavers, we hope to maintain that tradition and culture through our products. These values are important  for us to include in our voice in social media.

We love having volunteers with a wide range of talents and skills, so we are very open to creating a position for you that fits your skills, as well as the needs of Trama Textiles. Daily, you will will work our other volunteers and collaborate to create your content. We have other volunteers working in fashion design, writing, buisiness, and photography. There are many opportunities to work with these fellow volunteers to share what Trama Textiles is working on with our followers and customers. You will also work with our President and Vice President of the organization on a daily basis. These women know the weavers first hand, and have a vast knowledge of the cultural background of the products our weavers create. This provides a great opportunity to practice your Spanish’s language skills, and connect with locals.

We expect our volunteers for this position to create daily posts for our Facebook and Instagram pages, as well as maintain our Pinterest account. While creating posts, volunteers are expected to write content with a cultural perspective in mind. Our weavers are not merly employees, but women that we work with side by side to provide fair wages and better living conditions for their families. We are looking for volunteers that are interested in genuinely getting to know the culture of Guatemala, and humbly striving to represent the culture to the best of their ability through their posts. Volunteers work from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm regularly, but changes can be made to accommodate to your needs. It is helpful to bring your own computer or IPad and camera, but we do have a computer available to use here if you do not have one.

Additionally we can always use help in our tienda, distributing local publicity in cafes/bars/restaurants/volunteer organizations around Quetzaltenango, and other projects. Please get in touch if you're planning on a trip to Xela and we'll work with you to find a great opportunity to help!

We do not provide accommodations or meals, but we can help you find an inexpensive place to stay. Quetzaltenango is a mid-sized city with plenty of affordable hostels and apartments. There are many shops and restaurants, bars and cafes, and it is a short bus ride away from many of the beautiful tourist sites in Los Altos (Lake Atitlán, Chichicastenango, Antigua, Huehuetenango, and many other destinations)!

Tagesablauf

Volunteers will create content to post on our social media accounts daily, update the Pinterest account, and occasionally write for the newsletter and blog.  Volunteers may also be asked to occasionally update volunteer websites as well as work in the shop.

Freizeitaktivitäten

As the second-largest city in Guatemala, Quetzaltenango is full of fun things to do! There are some beautiful sites to see close by, including Lake Atitlan, which is just a few hours away by bus. There are many volunteers here in Xela with various NGO's, as well as a lot of students learning Spanish, so you are bound to make plenty of new friends!
