    Help conserve dolphins and whales on this teen volunteer project based on the island paradise of Tenerife in the Canary Islands.

    On this program, you’ll learn about how conservationists tackle environmental issues such as climate change and plastic pollution, as well as how they collect data on key species like whales, dolphins, rays and sea turtles.

    On this program, you’ll learn about how conservationists tackle environmental issues such as climate change and plastic pollution, as well as how they collect data on key species like whales, dolphins, rays and sea turtles.

    You’ll travel the waters around Tenerife with other teen volunteers, searching for whale and dolphin activity. You’ll gather data on their health, population numbers, behavioral patterns and take photos to help with identifying specific individuals. You’ll also conduct surveys of the waters and beaches, recording factors such as boat activity and coastal erosion. In the process, you’ll learn more about the field of marine science and gain new skills.

    You and our other teenage volunteers will share important information about sustainable travel and conservation with overseas visitors and the local community. You’ll also participate in other activities such as collecting plastic pollution from beaches and helping to educate tourists about the importance of choosing ethical whale and dolphin watching tours.

    Morning
    • 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the accommodation. 
    • 9:00 AM – Start the day’s activities, which vary throughout the week. EG: project days, you might conduct a land survey to monitor boat activity and other days could start with beach clean-ups. While adventure days might start with a hike or ...

    • 9:00 AM – Start the day’s activities, which vary throughout the week. EG: project days, you might conduct a land survey to monitor boat activity and other days could start with beach clean-ups. While adventure days might start with a hike or visit to a local town. 
    Afternoon
    • 12:00 PM – Lunch break at the house or a local restaurant. 
    • 1:30 PM – Continue with hands-on project work or cultural activities. Project work often involves going out on rib boats to observe and collect data on cetaceans, followed by data review sessions. On the other days, you'll participate in marine conservation masterclasses, Spanish cooking classes or be mid hike or exploring a local town like La laguna or visiting mount Teide. 
    Evening
    • 6:00 PM – Wrap up with a group debrief, language lesson, or reflection activity, fostering personal growth and cultural understanding.
    • 7:30 PM – Dinner at the accommodation cooked by participants in teams on a rotor.

    • GVI staff will meet you at the Arrivals terminal. Look out for our staff wearing GVI t-shirts holding a sign with a GVI logo on it. If you are unable to locate GVI staff, please send a message on your program Whatsapp Group.

    Indkvartering

    You will stay in shared dorm-style accommodation, where there will be multiple participants in each room. The rooms are allocated by gender (as indicated by your passport information). GVI staff will also stay on-site.
