Review Description

Misión México Foundation is situated in Tapachula, Mexico, and is a registered charity in Mexico and in the UK.

Misión México Foundation provides a loving, secure home for the children and youth in our care who have come from vulnerable situations and backgrounds. We currently have 19 children and youth living at Misión Mexico Home, and we provide services to additional youth through our other community programs: Youth Transition Program, Proyecto Faro (The Lighthouse Project), and Misión Surf.

Since our organization was established in 2001, Misión México has helped transform the lives of more than 250 children, giving them a much-deserved second chance at life. The refuge is set up and operated to provide a family home environment, where the children feel loved and secure.

The children attend school, with additional support from our onsite Education Team. They also learn to swim and surf - they are the only surfers in Tapachula! - and cherish their time at the beach and in the waves, where they continue to build their confidence and character.

We're a passionate group of people with a team of staff and volunteers from all over the world. We welcome volunteers year round to bring skills, talents, passion and love with them to share with our kids.

All our volunteers must be at least 21 years of age at the start of their time with us, commit to at least two consecutive months, and follow our Covid-19 clearance requirements and policy.

All the staff were so friendly, caring and positive. The children were such a joy to support and we are ...

2020 at Children's Refuge Supporter

It was amazing to get to know all of the children and staff at Mision Mexico. Although it could be tiring (mainly due to the hot weather), it was also extremely rewarding. A big part of the work is supervising and also encouraging the kids to do their chores and get ready for bed. Reading bedtime ...

Upon my arrival at Mision Mexico, I was made very welcome by both staff, volunteers and the children. It is an easy journey from the local airport or bus station and locals are very helpful. Mision Mexico provides all volunteers with onsite accommodation which includes either a private or shared ...

Mission Mexico is an amazing place in the south of Mexico very close to the border of Guatemala. The kids and the community there are like nothing else. The energy you feel when you first walk in the door and have so many beaming faces welcoming you inside, it is an incredible feeling. As a ...

The volunteer's responsibilities vary in level of difficulty and engagement with the children, ranging from general supervision to teaching of specific skills. There will be exhausting lows and ecstatic highs, but the more you give, the more you will gain. With that said, a little initiative and ...
