Review Description

One World was founded when Carsten Tiemann (Nickname: Ken) decided to buy this beautiful piece of earth to give it back to nature. 17 years later the agroecologial farm is full of endangered species - animals and plants. On our farm Ken is living with his family and his farm and wildlife workers. I myself was once an intern after my studies at University of Costa Rica and are now organizing your unforgettable trip.

Our main goal is to protect a huge amount of the bio diversity of the Costa Rican Caribbean rainforest. We are getting up each day to teach sustainability and sustainable living - how humans can live and coexist with nature. We educate you on the different sustainable installations on the farm as well as the plants and the animals on it and the wilder ones in our private wildlife refuge. Last but not least we are working a lot with the BriBri indigenous people, which are family for us.

We are based in the south-eastern Caribbean part of Cost Rica. As I myself traveled nearly the whole Caribbean of Central and South America I can claim honestly that the region of Puerto Viejo has the most beautiful beaches (excluding islands ;-)) and deepest and magical nature I have seen so far. Costa Rica is a really peaceful country. After starting a war again in 1949 Costa Rica gave up their military and is living since then without. But of course you have to be more careful. "No le das papaya" says a Costa Rican claim (translation: Don't give them a reason). So watch your money while having dinner and take a cap after partying and you will be all right.
As you will work in a tropical rainforest, we actually want you to have a foreign health insurance. Until now nobody got hurt or had problems, but we want to be on the safe side (maybe a German thing ;-) - Ken which is also German, like I am, made his way via Japan (study of agriculture and sustainable installation to Costa Rica.

What we want to achieve? We want to save as much of this astonishing nature as we could and while doing so, we want to educate people on sustainability as well as we want to let them take part of your vision and experience our beautiful world.

Until now seven private landowners including another German NGO (tropica verde) joined force to found the private Los Guardianes Wildlife Refuge which has currently a size of 550 hectares. That area has to be monitored and patrolled, and we won't stop there. We are connected with a lot of NGO's and organizations of the area  to protect more parts as well as fight for the rights of nature or even the rights of the indigenous BriBri people.

We are looking for people which want to breathe in a whole country with all its facets. We work on the farm, we will patroulle in the rainforest, we will do night walking tours to see all the magnificent animals at night, we will do tours to national parks, beaches, turtle projects, animal rescue centers and of course visit the BriBri reserve and get to know their culture and met our friend Don Lizandro the highest shaman of the BriBri in the Caribbean side. We are sustainable adventure tourism and volunteering at once, but no 4 star hotel! The building of that hotels are actually destroying our nature at the moment.

I often get asked what makes us unique? I always respond: everyting! We are not a program set of by any big company to make money. We get up every day to follow our hearts and our dreams fulfilling our mission to protect nature and educate people on sustainability. You work side by side with the owner and founder of that project, who by the way speaks fluently German, Spanish, English, Japanese and BriBri. The tour guide is not some random guy and you are not some random tourist - you are with Ken visiting his friend Don Lizandro the shaman or his friends in the turtle project. You are received as a friend and you can connect to all that people if you want - I think this makes the big different.
Well and as I already mentioned the nature in our area is incredible and absolutely unique. My second favorite Caribbean spot parque tayrona and the area in Colombia can not compete!

Best,
Hannes & Ken
