Teaching (After school Programs)

Mawulolo Youth Network (MYN) is currently providing after school services for over 100 children ranging from 5 to 13 years old.  MYN offers academic and recreational programs for children from the Christian Village, Accra, Ghana. Providing our programs in a fun and engaging environment is MYN’s highest priority.  We work closely with the children, community and families in order to deliver the most effective education, physical fitness, and life skill programs to meet their needs. We thrive at challenging our children and make their learning fun while maintaining a close teacher-student relationship. We offer an after school program three times a week, every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 4:00pm to 5:30pm. Teachers emphasize on enhancing children’s English and Mathematics skills. Our after school program is solely organized and taught by volunteers from Ghana and all over the world. It is a great chance for volunteers to gain valuable experience working with children from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and expand their classroom management, children interaction, and curriculum development skills.

Homework Help

MYN assists the children with their homework that has been given to them in their various schools, helping them gain a better understanding of what they are learning at school. The volunteers at MYN, from Ghana and all over the world help the children with their homework. This extra help with homework allows them to be able to ask questions if needed and get individualized attention, making it easier for them to learn without interruption and get a clear understanding of concepts they are going over in school

Feeding program

The feeding program is done for the children of the community. A meal, rice with sauce, is cooked for them to enjoy. The feeding program is important for the children because it provides them with a nutritious meal, one they may not be able to receive outside of MYN. The feeding program was done with great success and the benefits of the program were widely expressed. Along with receiving a nutritious meal, the kids also got a chance to enjoy one another outside of a school setting.

Poetry Recital

MYN teaches its children the importance of poetry recital. Different poems, from inspirational poems to poems about current issues going on, are taught to the children involved in MYN. After taking the time to memorize the different poems that they are being taught, the children are given various opportunities to recite these poems. Poem recital helps the students with their memorization abilities, public speaking skills, and increases their overall confidence.

Singing and Dancing (Ghanaian Cultural Dance)

Every Friday at MYN, the children are given the opportunity to learn and participate in singing and dancing. This allows them to explore different parts of the Ghanaian culture through song and dance. They learn different cultural dances and songs that are found throughout the different regions of Ghana. Having this chance to sing and dance gives them cultural enrichment, and it is also a part of MYN that is found to be extremely enjoyable among the youth of MYN.

Hand Craft

The students at MYN participate in different hand crafts. These hand crafts give the students a chance to express themselves, explore their creativity, and practice various forms of art. The hand crafts are beneficial for the students because it enables them to have a different setting for learning and makes their learning experience as enjoyable as it can be

Typical day

Mawulolo Youth Network believe is a fundamental human right for everyone. Structure is important for any organization to thrive; MYN is here to serve the children by providing a safe and fun place where students can learn, play, and create. As a MYN volunteer our purpose to carry out activities that will enrich students in our classes and help them advance in life. Based on your emphasis of study, experiences, and comfort level organize various activities and programs for your class that we ask you to teach.

Volunteer teachers have three days in a week ( Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays) to meet the children they are supposed to teach from 4pm to 5:30pm.
You will also have to come up with a curriculum that is fitting for your class by the help of a text book, which will be given to you by MYN.. This will serve as a guide for you.

We have administrative work that our volunteers can help with in the morning before classes hours.
In the office the main work that needs to be done will be communicating with donors, designing and executing programs that benefit the children and the community, assist the dance instructor, writing grants, and networking. We are flexible and are open to volunteers taking control in the type of work they wish to do.
