We are always looking for enthusiastic people that take initiative to help with the after school program - playing with and
supervising the children, organizing games or crafts, helping with set-up and clean-up.
You are welcome to come with your own ideas, and be prepared to get right into the games and crafts with them! Usually there are about 50 to 70 kids. This program is totally free and therefore the kids to not have to show up every day. If they cannot come for the day, that´s totally fine and they can come back the day of the week after. This because we want to keep the program open and accessible for everybody.
2pm - 2.30pm
The kids arrive and we give them freetime games from the storage, such as skates, soccerballs, hoolahoops etc.
There are tons of activities in and just outside of the mountain city of Xela. The city itself is really nice to just walk around, with a big variety of restaurants, bars and markets. Just outside of the city there are some nice hotsprings (Fuentes Georginas) and about an hour from the city there is a waterpark called Xocomil.
If you want to explore more of Guatemala:
Lake Atitlan is a 2-hour drive and a really nice get-away on the weekends. It´s called one of the most beautifull lakes in the world.
In Chichicastenango you will find the biggest market where you can find tons of nice souvenirs to bring home. Chichi (as called by the locals) is about 3 hours from Xela.
Antigua is a nice colonial town, nice to relax for the weekend and just walk around. It´s a 3-hour drive from Xela.
And if you like the beach, also this is really well reachable from the city. Different options, the closest (Champerrico) is about 2 hours from the city, where it will take you about 6 hours to get to the beach of Monterrico.
We will come pick you up in the city center on your first day to show you the way to the project.
We use the donation to buy materials such as handicraft materials and to repair toys (skates, bikes, skateboard etc).
