This project supports the welfare and protection of animals at local shelters. As the law in Barcelona protects every abandoned animal, local shelters play an important role in managing colonies of stray cats, in protection dogs and cats in a shelter and in promoting their adoption as well as raising awareness for animal abandonment. In the long-term, these shelters aim to reintegrate and re-educate the dogs and cats and to find a suitable family for them as well as to reduce future abandonment rates. Due to the law and a large number of animals that need shelter, these spaces are crowded and the volunteer work is crucial to support their mission and improve animals conditions.

As a volunteer, your tasks will vary and can include: cleaning the spaces, assisting with feeding, providing companionship by playing and socializing with the animals. Walking and playing with the animals are very important activities as it allows them to leave the tiny cage in which they have to live most part of the day. Notice that all dogs in the shelters are fully vaccinated. Depending on your skills and length of stay, you may have the opportunity to assist with minor medical treatment, as well as on building fences, campaigns to raise awareness, social media and photography to help promote the shelters.

There are various common areas such as dining room, living room, room balconies, outside areas surrounded by nature and a pool to refresh in the summer.
The hostel is in a neighborhood where you can find everything you need: local coffee shops, supermarkets, ATMs, hospital, police and most utilities you will need just around the corner. The Hostel is 5 minutes walking from the metro stop and has a few buses running by that can bring you to the city center. The airport is just 15 minutes away by public transportation.
But what is really unique about it is its social and sustainable concept. The hostel is actually a social business for a non-profit ran in the same building. The non-profit develops a wide range of programs, campaigns and activities for children and youth, their families and third sector organizations. The hostel also has a sustainability and accessibility commitment reflected on measures such as renewable energy production, selective waste collection, etc.
