The youth empowerment project is aimed at stimulating the involvement of young people in the development process of community structures. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

About the Program

Youth led initiatives have gained importance in Kenyan society by enhancing the involvement of the youth in the development process at the same time utilizing the skills and energies towards making the society a better place. The focus of youth led initiatives range in a wider range from rehabilitation to education, from environmental sustainability to economic development, from enterprise development to skills development. Hence the involvement of volunteers offers an opportunity to develop the potential of the youth hence the realization of sustainable development.

The program is designed to respond to the local youths' needs and assets. The KCEP project aims to empower youth to make sound career and life decisions as they transition from high school to the next phase of their lives. the project is building the capacity of local institutions and networks to sustain the much needed services. 

Specifically, the project intents to offer youths a series of inter-connected interventions to: build skills, facilitate appropriate career choices, provide employment and/or income generating opportunities, bridge technical and university education opportunities and provide fun and free space.

KCEP aims to support orphans,vulnerable children through rehabilitation centre and basic necessities and facilitate needy community groups to participate in integrated activities to achieve quality livelihood

Typical day

Usual working days are Monday - Saturday from 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM including the following tasks.

  • Computer training to orphans
  • Community microfinance projects
  • Support of orphans
  • Education center activities
There’s no such thing as a typical day! That’s part of the excitement of volunteering. Your life will become personally and professionally very different to what you know now. What is certain though is that you will be enjoying an all-new culture, mixing in a different community and challenging yourself professionally, in all new ways.

Free-time activities

Cultural excursions withing the local community.
Volunteers will have time to visit parks and touristic site which will give them an opportunity to learn more about the country. Volunteers will also have time with community members where they will be able to learn the local language and culture. Excursions and hiking within the local community.



In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 08:30 - 17:00

Airport Pickup at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport
We will pick you up from the airport.  Before you start your journey to Kenya, please confirm with us, that we have received your correct flight details. The costs for two airport transports (Pick up after arrival & Drop off before departure) are included.


Volunteers will be accommodated in a local family where a secure room and bedding will be provided for the volunteer. At the family's house there will be bathrooms and toilets for use by the volunteer.

Food & Beverages

Volunteers will be provided with daily meals at the host family and sometimes will have lunch at the project site. Safe drinking water will also be provided for the volunteer.
Alcoholic and soft drinks will not be provided

Good access at the project site
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. We assist you to find cheap flights to Kenya.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Kenya provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Kenya you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Kenya.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with VACK jitolee Africa during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
