In Uganda the Deaf and Dump experience the hardest part of life as they are referred to as KASIRU translated as STUPID which sounds is an insult to these people because they are not stupid as they are sought to be.
These people are normal like everyone but what differentiates is the way of communication.
Through the experience we have working with Deaf people we got to know that some people are born deaf and some just become deaf due to mental illnesses like 6 children we have that became deaf due to illnesses.
People who are deaf have very few or no chances of getting employment in the environment of normal people because of their inability to hear.
For that matter we decided to provide them with hands of skills such as;
- Tailoring and Fashion Designing
- Hair Dressing and Cosmetology
- Bakery and Confectionery
- Motor Vehicle Repair
And many more skills.
Those skills help these people become self-employed and later earning a living.
On top of earning a living through the skills training, these people get a chance to spend time with people like them.
We also train people who have just become deaf with Sign language skills and also train the same with the community member who stay with these people on how to communicate with them.
If you wish to join us a volunteer you are advised to come with light clothes, some sweaters for the rainy season and mosquito repellents for camping since in Uganda our climate is Equatorial it can rain and shine in the same day.
On the volunteer's leave they are awarded an Appreciation certificate

Volunteers start work at 08:00am, Break time at 10:00am-10:30am, lunch break 1:00pm-02:00pm.
