Hope Foundation Cameroon is looking for excited and motivated volunteers to facilitate our education campaign programs for children and families in Cameroon. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

For this program we are looking for volunteers to support our different educational campaigns in Cameroon. During your stay, you will coordinate and run education campaigns in one or more of the following campaigns:

Malaria Free Cameroon Project

Malaria is particularly devastating in Cameroon, where it remains the leading killer of pregnant women and children below 5. Hope Foundation has therefore initiated the “Malaria-Free Cameroon (MFC)” Project a multi-year effort to fight and eradicate malaria in malaria-threatened zones of Cameroon through the provision of protective nets, malaria drugs, enhancing diagnostic tests, and educating local under-served communities, where there are ten new cases of malaria every second.

You will run training programs to educate and create awareness about the life-threatening risks of malaria in local communities and schools. Since our target groups are children and women, you will visit schools as well as run sessions in local market places, bus stops, and households. We also work with local health centers and some doctors and nurses.

Holiday School & Cultural Exchange

With your help we aim to make summer learning fun! The summer school is for children from every background of society, keen to improve their knowledge of school materials and learn about important non-school related subjects such as HIV prevention, in a playful manner. Our pedagogical approach places the student and his or her way of learning at the center. You will prepare lecture style lessons, as well as offer one-on-one tutoring for students. Ideally, should be familiar with interactive and group based teaching techniques.

"Football 4 Life"

The slogan of this program is "Sports for a Better Life." With your help, we organize competitive football tournaments for young men and women and disseminate educational information about HIV/AIDS, drugs & malaria. The Football 4 Life project targets youth from particularly vulnerable communities where there is a prevalence of social challenges. The tournaments will act as an opportunity to teach the young participants about many pertinent social issues such as substance abuse, HIV/Aids, malaria, female empowerment, and teen pregnancy.

Needs / Requirements:

You are highly motivated, open minded, flexible, out-spoken, and able to adapt to changes. While no formal previous training is required, it is important that you are comfortable presenting in front of people and managing groups of young people and children. We also expect you to have knowledge on malaria and HIV/Aids and be interested in health education. You need to be competent in French language skills and comfortable preparing lessons in the most important subjects of grades 1-12.

Typical day

Work will always depend on the project phase activities in place and all volunteers are expected to commit and work as a team. Activities such as picking up and organizing donations to be distributed can be expected as well as attending the actual events and coordinating the educational activities while distributing the nets. Additionally, volunteers may be spreading awareness on health hazards caused by not using shoes, and possibly distributing shoes to local people.

Work will be outdoors and indoors starting from 8 am till 4 pm, Mondays to Fridays. The season will be warm since it will be the dry season from Nov-March with temperatures between 30-35° C. Weekends are reserved for sightseeing, traveling, and resting.

Free-time activities

Weekends and free time can be spent exploring, sightseeing, relaxing, and hanging out with other volunteers or newly made friends! The kids always like to engage volunteers in sports and games after work and on weekends, too!

Included Services

Services by Hope Foundation

Accommodation, Food & Drink and airport pickup are included in the fees.

Hope Foundation is an organization with limited financial resources; therefore, we require that each volunteer covers the cost of living during their stay in Cameroon which we can arrange for both safety and comfort by paying the program fees.

In addition to arranging accommodation, Hope Foundation picks up and drops off volunteers from the airport, and provides three healthy meals a day for volunteers. All volunteers receive a free T-Shirt. In the past ten years of receiving volunteers, this has proven to be both the easiest and most affordable way for volunteers to join us in Cameroon!

We ask that 50% of the total fees be paid beforehand and the remaining 50% be paid on site.

Airport Pickup at Yaounde Airport

A Hope Foundation staff member will pick the volunteers up directly from the airport, from there it is about 6 hours.

The types of accommodation vary from one project to the next and from one location to another. A high amount of flexibility is expected from volunteers at this juncture where living conditions are not always the same as from their home countries. Volunteers coming in groups usually live together in shared accommodations while individuals stay with host families, a culturally immersive experience which allows volunteers to integrate into the local Cameroonian community through food, dance, music, dressing, and general lifestyle!

Detailed information about the project including map (s) / photos, helpful links, will be available and sent to applicants via the Volunteer World messaging system.

Guest Family Guesthouse
Food & Beverages

Three healthy meals are provided per day to volunteers! In a host family stay, all meals are prepared for the volunteer. In the dorm building, volunteers have access to a full-stocked kitchen and a cook comes once a day to prepare lunch. Breakfast and dinner are made by the volunteers, though all groceries are provided by Hope Foundation.
