Activities may including helping the local staff with daily routines such as cleaning and cooking. Volunteers are encouraged to use their skills and interests to assist carers in developing activities for the children, such as music and dance, sports, arts and crafts. All the while incorporating simple English words to develop the children's language learning abilities.
Volunteers will contribute in a number of ways on this program and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
Working around school hours during term time (mid-May through February) volunteers work in the afternoon and evening for around 4 hours a day, Monday to Friday. During the Thai summer school holidays in March and April the schedule will be adjusted to suit the children's activities.
Morning and early afternoon Free time
Whilst the children attend school volunteers can enjoy free time; to relax, stay in touch with friends and family and explore Chiang Mai. Breakfast is provided at the volunteer house. Lunch is self-catered and can be purchased from one of the many eateries in the city or prepared in the communal kitchen.

3:15pm Pre-start meeting with the project supervisor
3:30pm VOLUNTEERING DUTIES START
Children begin arriving home from school between 3:30pm and 4pm depending on their age. Volunteers engage with the children: assisting with homework, organising sporting, creative and educational activities, helping them with daily chores, reading, singing etc.
6:00pm Dinner with the children
Volunteers assist with the preparation of the evening meal, sit down to eat with the children and help with clean-up afterwards. A very special opportunity.
7:00pm VOLUNTEERING DUTIES END
Volunteers make their way back to the Volunteer House via public transport or meet with fellow volunteers and enjoy the balmy evenings.
Volunteers on this program are accommodated in a volunteer house conveniently located within easy reach of the city. Rooms are dormitory style and split by gender with 2 – 4 volunteers sharing.
All rooms are air-conditioned for comfort and the house has all the amenities a volunteer requires including western-style bathrooms, hot running water, bed linen (volunteers should bring their own towels and toiletries), kitchen and laundry facilities and Wi-Fi available 24 hours a day. Easy!
Accommodation on this program includes daily breakfast at the volunteer house and dinner at the project site. Lunch is self-catered and provides an excellent opportunity to explore the city and dine at one of the numerous eateries offering Thai or international cuisine. Volunteers are also welcome to make use of the kitchen facilities at the volunteer house.
Kaeng Khiao Wan’ (Thai Green Curry) and fruit based salads such as pomelo and green mango. Delicious!
