KINDER GARDEN IN THE SOUTH OF QUITO 

BACKGROUND

This is an institution of social help, without economic benefit, it is located in the south of Quito, it takes care and feeds children of single and teenager mothers as well as to children of poor families of the place. This institution provides breakfast, a snack in the morning, lunch and a snack in the afternoon.

This institution takes care of children from 3 months up to 5 years old and children from 6 to 7 years old. The schedule is from Monday to Friday since 08h30 to 15h00.

The institution has approximately 74 children. The number of children may vary.

NURSERY: 0 months to 3 years old (20 children)
PRE-KINDER: Children of 4 years old (27 children)
KINDER: Children of 5 years old (21 children)
ELEMENTARY SCHOOL: Children of 6 and 7 years old (6 children)

VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

  • Taking care of children
  • Preparing games and recreational activities
  • Elaborating didactic material
  • Support with homework and English during the afternoons
  • Artistic activities (drawing and painting)
  • To help in the area of construction by building a classroom for the children.
If the volunteer wants to stay longer than 3 months, a volunteer visa will be required. 

Free-time activities

Volunteers usually visit the town centre which has a lot of museums and beautiful churches. Besides museums and churches, volunteers can also visit the Teleferico in Quito. It is a cable car that leads you just a few hours on foot the Pichincha volcano. Another touristic atraction that is located near from Quito is the Pululahua crater. Volunteers should also visit the Panecillo and the middle of the world monument . Other touristic places that we recommend are Quilotoa lake, San Pablo lake, Cotopaxi national park ,Antisana ecological reserve, Otavalo,Mindo, and Baños.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

The nearest airport is Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito. We assist you to find cheap flights to Ecuador.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Ecuador provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Ecuador you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Ecuador.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with New Horizons Ecuador during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
