The Mighty Roar

Childcare and Teaching Assistant

New Delhi, India show on map
Did you know that more than 400,000 children live on the streets in India? In Delhi, there are close to 175,000 children on the streets caring for themselves. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Singles
Couples
Groups
50+

We urgently need your time and dedication to help provide the love and care these disadvantaged children so desperately need. We aim to put smiles on all of the children’s faces and help to create a safe and positive environment.

You will get the chance to work across several shelters and homes specifically for the children where you will engage them in informal education, as well as playing games and other creative activities.

As a developing country, India is plagued with extreme poverty and social discrimination. To survive, thousands of children have had to leave their homes and travel to the larger cities in search of work, food and money.

Many children in Delhi live on very little and come from poor families or have no family at all. The vast majority of children do not attend any form of school and spend most of their time on the streets.

Working alongside a fantastic charity, you will provide support and positive reinforcement to the children. All of the children are full of energy and enthusiasm and are a lot of fun to be around. They are always excited to meet new volunteers from around the world and your time will make a world of difference to their lives.

You will play an important role helping teachers with informal education in English as well as other subjects like maths and geography. Try out your creative side with planning and designing interactive lessons as well as organising and managing outdoor recreational games.

Typical day

Although no day will ever be the same, there is a basic schedule to each day. You will typically be volunteering from 10am – 4pm with a lunch break in between Monday to Friday.

Spending your time with the children is such a rewarding experience and you will gain many lovely connections that it will be hard to say goodbye!

During your time on this amazing programme you can expect to help with the following:

  • Assisting with informal education, including basic literacy, maths, geography and other subjects such as art
  • Organising and managing outdoor recreational games
  • Planning and designing creative activities
  • Assisting staff with various tasks around the centre
  • Providing support and positive reinforcement to the children
  • Teaching the children basic life skills and health management
  • Plan special trips to nearby museums or zoos
