About the Program

You will be in contact with 46 children from the less privileged homes in Sakubva and Chikanga communities in Mutare. Other days you will visit the less privileged children and share their life experiences with their guardians.

As a participant on this project you will be working with children that may have been abandoned and abused. It will be your role as a volunteer to support the staff by engaging the children in many different activities. Volunteers are encouraged to gear their activities towards helping the children with homework and any other fun and useful activities.

Specifically volunteers will do the following activities:

  • Raising awareness of social issues with local communities
  • Assess the conditions and needs of the children and people you will be working with
  • Provide counseling session therapy methods with local staff to improve current practices
  • Provide career development session with youth girls and boys
  • Assist in cooking and doing laundry for the less privileged children
  • Providing abused children with the care and attention they need
  • Assist with general tasks such feeding programs within the families

Typical day

Regular Days

08.00-10.00am  Assisting with general tasks such feeding and playing educational games
11.00-12.00pm  Project Site Visitation and Assessing the conditions and needs of the children
12.00-13.00pm  Assisting cooking and doing laundry for the less privileged children
13.00-14.00pm  Serving Lunch and sharing stories with families
14.00-15.00pm  Sharing of counseling and therapy methods with local staff to improve current practices
15.00-16.00pm  Providing career development session with youth girls and boys
16.00-17.00pm  Raising awareness of social issues in local communities

Details on Arrival

Programs start every 1st and 3rd Monday of each month, with arrival Sunday prior to the program start at HIA (Harare International Airport).This programs are available all year round.
Upon arrival you will be picked up at the airport and driven to the volunteer house or coordinator’s place.During 1-3 days, depending on the length of your voluntary work, you will get a general briefing. These first days will offer you glimpses into the Shona  language, as well as Zimbabwe's various cultures, religions, and local ways of life.
This introduction will be held in Mutare, Harare  depending on your work area.

Free-time activities

Volunteers can visit tourist areas like Vumba Nature Ruins, Nyanga Botanical Garden, and Zimbabwe Ruins. The volunteers will do mountain climbing and visit Victoria Falls and Hwange National Parks.


Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Airport Pickup at Harare International Airport

Upon arrival, all volunteers will be picked up at the airport by the volunteer coordinator in Zimbabwe. He will give you a brief orientation and update on the current events and status of our projects. He will then bring you to your volunteer location. You can be placed in groups and we will not split you up if you come with a partner or friends.


Volunteers are accommodated with host families who can cook for them and provide bedding for them. The volunteers will sleep in well comfortable bedrooms with separate bathroom and showers. Volunteers will enjoy outdoor sitting gazebo and will have a separate kitchen to cook on their own.

Food & Beverages

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided by the host family who is also on hand to provide care and support to all our volunteers. Volunteer can enjoy Zimbabwean dishes which are African and could experience different flavours and meals during their Zimbabwean stay.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Harare International Airport (HRE) in Harare. We assist you to find cheap flights to Zimbabwe.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Zimbabwe provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Zimbabwe you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Zimbabwe.

You can volunteer at the project site in Mutare/Zimbabwe between 4 weeks and 4 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Musha Care Foundation will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Zimbabwe.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Musha Care Foundation during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
