Education is a fundamental human right that every child in the world should have! But factors like poverty take that right from millions of children all over the world. Even in a country developed like Portugal, many children have a huge lack of support to continue their education and to reach their dreams and go after their full potential.

In this program, you have the chance to assist different non-profit organizations in supporting children in need by giving them the opportunity to experience extracurricular activities and helping them to discover and following their dreams. Your tasks will include teaching them English and helping them with their homework, designing and implementing new extra-curricular activities, support planned activities, or teaching them a new sport, culture, language, instrument, game, or crafts.

Typical day

After the initial orientation, you will join the afternoon or evening shift at your placement and will work for approximately 3 to 5 hours per day. Please note that the starting times and daily workload will depend on the Social partner that you are participating in.

A typical daily schedule for an evening shift will look as follows:

10:00 am | Explore the city and learn the Portuguese language during your free time!
01:00 pm | Choose the perfect place to have lunch, a picnic by the river or a typical restaurant in the city!
04:00 pm | Volunteer placement! Give your very best at your project! Usually, placements are within walking distance, but you might also have to take the bus, tram or train to get to your project.
09:00 pm | Dinner with other international volunteers and other travelers.

Please note this schedule can vary depending on the schedule of each specific project. It might be a morning or afternoon shift.

Free-time activities

In your free time, you can explore the city, have Portuguese language classes, surf, or anything you wish!

Porto is the second biggest city in Portugal and one of the most authentic cities to visit in the country. Stroll through its sinuous and picturesque streets and feel the pulse of the city, or take the tram to the mouth of the river Douro and get to know the excellent beaches and the outdoor cafés. The historic center of Porto was declared UNESCO World Heritage but is the hospitality and forceful character of the locals that will delight you. Porto is a vibrant and young city with countless cafés, bars, and clubs to have a really good time at night, or relaxed rooftops to have a drink and enjoy the warm Portuguese climate.

Porto, the gate to the North of the country, is definitely worth the visit!
