We are currently looking for volunteer Children's Educators to join our Education program.
Job Purpose/General Nature of the Position:
The volunteer Children’s Educator will plan and deliver classes
in our After School Program for 6-12 year olds in English, Math, Science
and Social-Emotional Learning. The English, Math and Science classes
are part of a partnership with Armando Aid and will therefore involve
use of tablets provided by them for this purpose. The Social-Emotional
Learning classes will follow a curriculum laid out by the International
Rescue Committee.
The primary school children that are the focus of this program, are enrolled into Greek Public Schools. However the main aim of the Greek schools is to ensure that the kids have the necessary Greek language level in order to be streamed into the regular classes with Greek children. In order to stimulate them more and give them equal opportunities to access education this program was developed. As it focuses on a general set of school subjects such as math, science and English language, we try to make sure that the knowledge gap is also covered. So that even when the kids learn Greek enough to join the Greek kids, the knowledge gap does not set them back.
Additionally the program adds to the rather empty days of the children, who besides school in the mornings don't have other activities for them in the camp.
By volunteering in this program you will be working first and foremost with the primary school aged children from the camp. Additionally you might interact with the parents of the children, other volunteers from both I AM YOU as well as other organizations and representatives of the Greek Ministry of Education.
