SB is looking for a Communal-Living Coordinator to share experiences in a large communal volunteer home. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

Sustainable Bolivia supports local and international volunteers interested in making a lasting impact.  We work hard to arrange a mutually beneficial volunteer experience.

We always need volunteers or interns to help our NGO administratively and give additional support in order to develop further our activities and projects. 

Sustainable Bolivia is looking for a Communal-Living Coordinator to share experiences in a large communal volunteer home. The Coordinator’s main responsibility will be organizing community events such as shared dinners, parties, yoga/dance classes, workshops, language exchanges and art exhibitions.

The coordinator will ensure that house tasks are shared and that volunteers feel supported. Acting as a crucial link between SB staff and the volunteer community, the selected applicant will work closely with our team of international and local employees, to ensure the best experience possible.

Typical day

Some duties of the Resident Coordinator’s responsibilities may include:

Volunteer Introduction and Orientation

  • House & City tours
  • Introduction to Host Organization

Promoting Shared Living Experience in SB Houses

  • Establishing systems of communal living
  • Involving new volunteers in SB community
  • Sustainable living: recycling, compost, natural cleaning products

Sustainable Bolivia events

  • Event Preparation (pot-luck dinners, yoga classes, workshops, etc.
  • Organize weekend trips
  • Encourage and support volunteers to participate in the shared community

This position is an opportunity to implement creative ideas for promoting success in a communal, sustainable, living environment.

Free-time activities

In their free time, volunteers can enjoy a lot of activities around Riberalta such as enjoying the nature of the Amazon (tours, trekking) and the animals, enjoying the rivers (boat tours) or the swimming pools close-by. It is also very easy to go to Brazil where you there is a lot of amenities for shopping.

If volunteers want to travel, there is a lot to see in Bolivia itself (easily accessible by plane) such as the salt flats, the Titicaca Lake, the cities of La Paz, Sucre and Tarija (this last one for the wines), the mines of Potosi and of course its incredible nature and the parks around Santa Cruz (Amboro) or Samaipata, and around Villa Tunari.

Water Sports


In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (intermediate level) or Spanish (basic level)
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in living in a communal environment
Passion for implementing sustainable practices in the work and living environment
Project Management and Program Administration skills
Creativity and initiative in problem solving
Sense of humor and flexible attitude
Professional Spanish Language Ability (Fluency Preferred)
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:00 - 17:00

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Gen Buech Airport (RIB) in Riberalta. We assist you to find cheap flights to Bolivia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Bolivia provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Bolivia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Bolivia.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Sustainable Bolivia during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
