Many see the United States as a well-off nation, a land of plenty, but the sad reality is that the majority of those living in the US suffer from income inequality, housing insecurity and a lack of access to basic necessities. This program aims to address these issues by supporting grass-roots organizations working to help low-income families and un-housed populations.
Volunteers place a vital part in achieving this program's ultimate aim: to create thriving, vibrant and safe communities where residents have equal access to opportunities and resources.
How you can help
More than ever volunteers are needed to assist local organizations in their work with vulnerable communities. In this ever changing world the challenges are multiple and often unpredictable. Volunteers on this essential program will gain an insight into the issues faced by these communities and will play a part in combating these challenges and empowering individuals to be active in their community.
Volunteers will be matched with local initiatives based on skill-sets, preferences and the needs existing at the time of placement. The program partners with various organizations running a diverse range of projects and the work undertaken by each volunteer is meaningful and beneficial to the communities served. Placements may be with food banks, homeless shelters, donation warehouses, schools and community centres.
Volunteer work will vary depending on the projects being undertaken and may include:
Volunteers on this program can expect to work for around 3 - 5 hours per day, 4 or 5 days a week, typically Monday through Friday. When not volunteering participants are free to enjoy this incredible city!

7:00am Breakfast at the Hostel
8:15am Travel to the project site
8:45am Pre-start meeting with the program coordinator
9:00am VOLUNTEERING DUTIES START
Lunch is taken at midday at an eatery near to the project site
2:00pm VOLUNTEERING DUTIES END
Exact finishing times will depend on the specific project.
2:15pm De-brief with the project coordinator
Afternoons and evenings are free time to enjoy the many amazing experiences on offer in Denver.
Denver is sublime. With the soaring Rocky Mountains as backdrop this city has got the outdoors wrapped up in snow-covered glory. Top that with an established restaurant and bar scene and plenty of art and culture to enjoy and you have yourself a location that will not disappoint, no matter your interests.
The city is webbed with cycling and walking paths strung between parks so it's super easy to explore and each neighbourhood showcases its own talents such as Lower Downtown (LoDo) for bars, River North (RiNo) for street art and Highlands and Lower Highlands (LoHi) for restaurants and shopping.
What better place to be based whilst volunteering!
Volunteers are met on arrival into Denver by our local representative and taken to the hostel to settle in. A welcome dinner for new and current volunteers is a great opportunity to get to know each other!
Monday is Orientation Day, designed to help volunteers feel supported and comfortable in their new environment. The orientation will cover negotiating the public transport system and will include a visit to the project site and brief introduction by the community partner.
Volunteers on our programs in Denver are lucky enough to stay in an award winning hostel, based in a converted historic mansion and conveniently located in Capital Hill.
Rooms are shared with each bunk having its own privacy curtain, power outlets, lights and storage. Bathrooms are modern, laundry and kitchen facilities provided, free Wi-fi and fantastic communal areas to relax with fellow guests. There's even a hot-tub! Luxe. Linens are provided so volunteers need only bring personal items.
This project is available year-round and programs start every SUNDAY. Volunteers can choose to participate for periods ranging from 1 week to 12 weeks. Longer stays can be arranged directly with the local team, but will be subject to availability and individual visa conditions.
Spaces on this project are limited and therefore subject to availability. Early booking is recommended.
