Conduct your primary/secondary research with an education based charity in Nepal! This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 22+

We are seeking applications from motivated individuals hoping to gain valuable experience in the development sector by undertaking a volunteer role in Nepal .

How it works

As part of the role, we are offering a unique opportunity to students looking to explore the scope of their own dissertation projects. Use bespoke methodologies to conduct research on the ground for your dissertation, in collaboration with local partner organisations. In addition to this you will also have exclusive access to previous research by Street Child.  

This is a wonderful opportunity to gain CV enhancing skills while undertaking valuable research for your dissertation and making a real contribution to development work.

The usual duration is a minimum of 2 weeks but there is flexibilty to adapt the duration of your dissertation research to your needs. 

Typical day

You can conduct your research in a variety of areas and this list is by no means exhaustive!   

Some of the areas of research could include:

  • Street children
  • Livelihood/ family business support
  • Education in emergency (Nepal earthquake, Ebola in West Africa)
  • Girls’ education in marginalised communities
  • Education for children with disabilities
  • Teaching and learning
  • Gender

Free-time activities


In order to join the program you need to be at least 22 years old on the program start date.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (intermediate level)

Education Requirements
Studying towards a research degree in a relevant field at University level
Required Documents
CV and motivation letter
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
Professional and diligent in presentation with excellent written and verbal communication
Independent and capable of proactive work plan management with minimal support
Flexible and adaptable
Respectful of cultural differences and mindful of the position of a researcher
Keen interest in understanding and contributing to the development sector
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday

What's Included

Services by Street Child
Fees are there to cover the daily costs of accomodation (about 12$ per day).

Every volunteer has to cover their own costs for flights, vaccinations and visa.

We ask all our volunteers to fundraise 1200€.
Our projects are only possible because of all the money we fundraise and this method has proven itself to be an effective tool to achieve a lasting impact of each volunteer’s time in their respective project.

Every successful applicant will work together with one of our experienced fundraising mentors, who will provide all the information and material necessary to reach our fundraising goal as well as accompany and help the volunteer throughout every step in the fundraising process

Airport Pickup at Tribhuvan International Airport

From airport to the project location, the pick up time will be agreed upon before arrival with the volunteer. 


Shared room with other interns in a Street Child provided compound.

Limited access at the project site
What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu. We assist you to find cheap flights to Nepal.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Nepal provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Nepal you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Nepal.

Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Street Child will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Street Child during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
