Working with in a Dog Shelter with dogs that have been rescued from Huanchaco region, in desperate need of support as 40 dogs are being looked after by one man. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
The Animal Rescue Program works with a local shelter, which houses around 40 dogs that used to live in the streets of Huanchaco and surroundings.

The project tries to give a new opportunity to the dogs of the zone for that reason veterinarians or volunteers with previous experience in animal Shelters are of great help, although it is not necessary to have previous experience to be able to help in the project. The shelter is located in an informal settlement with few amenities, but there are shelters and water and food as well as love and attention fo the dogs.

Tasks to develop:
- Help with space maintenance (sweeping, mopping, cleaning)
- Helping keep the dogs clean and healthy (grooming, washing and cutting fur, applying anti lice and worm medication)
- Walking the dogs
- Support for rescue operations

You do not need to bring any special equipment to undertake this palcement (other than clothes that you do not mind getting a little dirty), but donations are always welcomed by the dog shelter, such as bowls and leads, please liaise with us over what is currently required.

Free-time activities

Huanchaco is a beautiful coastal town where the waves are perfect all year long, for all types of surfers. Huanchaco is surrounded by some mountains where it is possible to go hiking (tours are arranged by local guides, at reasonable prices). Furthermore, there's a beautiful white mountain range, the cordillera blanca, situated in Huaraz, fairly close to Huanchaco (7h bus ride), which offers a good many hiking and climbing possibilities in the most fascinating landscape. If you prefer cultural activities, we are a few minutes away from the Chan Chan and Huaca del sol y de la luna, which are among the most well-preserved temple ruins that can be found in Peru.
