The project

Volunteering Solutions has a special offering for all nature lovers and conversationalists. The Volunteer Conservation Program in Australia is a one of its kind project where in volunteers get to contribute for the preservation of one of the most amazing ecosystems in the world. 

Australia is known for its magnum opus biosphere with well preserved rain-forests, boasting of an exuberant wildlife; with Koalas, Kangaroos and, myriads of nationals parks. While the rainforests have seen their hay days, the maintenance and preservation is an ongoing process and requires due diligence.

Your role as a volunteer

The main role of a volunteer joining this program is to;

  • Help in the conservation and preservation work as guided by the project coordinator.
  • Help in the maintenance work and upkeep of the forests or allocated project area.
  • Know about Australia’s wildlife -flora and fauna in detail.
  • Gather knowledge about genus and nomenclature of the plant and animal cycle; perks for biology and science students. 

The different locations

Tread through amazing and scenic destinations of Adelaide, Bendigo, Brisbane, Cairns, Canberra, Darwin, Geelong, Hobart, Melbourne, Newcastle, Perth, Sydney and Townsville to get hands on experience in Ethical conservation. And, while, you are at it connect with the your adventure side and indulge in some nerve wrecking extreme sports!

Since there are various locations to choose from, volunteers would be either put in a hostel-style shared accommodation, or a caravan or camping set up. All the accommodation would be clean, comfortable and will have same gender sharing set up. 


All participants need to arrive at the meeting point address provided to them on Friday at 11am. Full address and instructions shall be provided. As soon as you arrive at the location of your choice, you have to report to your assigned project site, where you would be met by your project coordinator. He/she would give you a detailed orientation. 

Areas like safety, locations, transportation, things to see etc will be  covered in the Orientation. After your orientation is over, you will be introduced to your project. Depending on the arrival date, you may have the weekend to explore the place and you are free to do so.

Typical day

Volunteers joining the Conservation Program are placed in several different cities across the country. So, while the similar set of volunteer work is followed at each destination, the schedule may vary at times. A generic volunteer schedule while volunteering in Australia is;

  • Friday - Arrival in Australia (the city of your choice to volunteer in) + Orientation. Orientation session will be conducted by the local coordinator, covering topic areas; such as safety, culture, language, places to visit, behavior, food, and other suggestion over things to do in Australia.
  • Sat and Sun - Free time to explore the city and know other volunteers.
  • Mon to Fri - Volunteer Work
    • Breakfast - 07:00 am onward
    • Working hours - 08:00 am to 12:00 noon and 01:00 pm to 04:00 pm
    • Lunch - 12:00 pm onward (lunch is either provided packed from the accommodation or at the placement)
    • Dinner - 07:00 pm onward
The same volunteer work schedule continues from the second week onward 
  • Weekends - Free to explore the city

Free-time activities

Volunteers, usually, work for around 7-8 hours a day over the weekdays, and have the evenings free to explore the city. Needless to say that there are ample of places to visit and explore, as well as activities to indulge in, when in Australia. Immerse in Aussie culture and share cold beers and indulge in beach barbecues. Surfing, bungee Jumping, Scuba Diving, White-water rafting are some of the perks attached to taking up this project!

Over weekends, volunteers can take short getaway trips to some of the best location around the city they are volunteering in. The local coordinator can help you with some of the best places to visit over the weekends and can also assist with transportation. Head to Uluru or the Great Barrier Reef after the conclusion of your project. 

Water Sports


In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

You need to speak English (basic level)

No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
must be in good health and ready to do some hard outdoor work.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 16:00

Since there are various locations to choose from, volunteers would be either put in a hostel-style shared accommodation, or a caravan or camping set up. All the accommodation would be clean, comfortable and will have same gender sharing set up.

While, one shall to not expect a furnished setup when accommodated in a caravan or camp, the hostel-style accommodations have basic facilities; such as television (in common area), bunk beds, dinning area, etc. 

Bathroom and Toilet facilities are properly arranged even in Caravan and Camp accommodations.

Food & Beverages

Meals for three times (Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner) are provided in all projects and accommodations; however, volunteers would be required to share in the cooking and cleaning utensil duties.

Volunteers with special dietary requirements can mention the same in their application, and that will be taken care of; such as vegan, allergic to some kind of food, etc.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Tullamarine Airport (MEL) in Melbourne. We assist you to find cheap flights to Australia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Australia provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Australia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Australia.

The program start date is also the arrival date at the destination. So, volunteers must plan their arrival accordingly. Complete address, with location and contact details of the concerned person, will be provided to the volunteers and they have to report at the mentioned meeting point of their choice of the city by 11 am on the day of the program start date.
