Welcome to our humble forest communities of the eastern Indian region where you would get a hands-on experience of the preservation methods and wildlife conservation programs near the world-famous Sundarbans.

Introduction:

  1. The Sundarbans National Park is a national parktiger reserve and biosphere reserve in West Bengal, India. It is part of the Sundarbans on the Ganges Delta and adjacent to the Sundarbans Reserve Forest in Bangladesh. It was declared a wildlife reserve in 1977 and inscribed as UNESCO WHS (World Heritage Site) in 1987.
  2. The Rajnagar is a census town in Rajnagar CD block in Suri Sadar subdivision of Birbhum district in the Indian state of West Bengal. It was formerly the capital of Royal Kingdoms in the area.
  3. The Royal Bengal tiger (that famous one!!) is the commonly found species in the park. Having protection since its creation, the core area is free from all human disturbances such as collection of wood, honey, fishing, and other forest products. However, in the buffer area, these activities are permitted in limited form. The forest staff, using motorboats and launches, protect the park from illegal poaching and theft. Forest offices and camps are located at several important parts of the park.
  4. Habitat of wildlife is maintained through eco-conservation, eco-development, training, education and research. Ten Forest Protection Committees and 21 Eco-development Committees have been formed in the fringe of Sundarbans Tiger Reserve to help in this regard. Seminars, workshops and awareness camps are organized in the vicinity of park to educate the people on eco-conservation, eco-development, and such other issues. Conservation of soil is done to maintain the ecological balance.
  5. Despite these protections, the Indian Sundarbans were considered endangered in a 2020 assessment under the IUCN Red List of Ecosystems framework. The Sundarbans mangrove forest covers an area of about 10,000 km2 (3,900 sq mi), of which forests in Bangladesh's Khulna Division extend over 6,017 km2 (2,323 sq mi) and in West Bengal, they extend over 4,260 km2 (1,640 sq mi) across the South 24 Parganas and North 24 Parganas districts. The most abundant tree species are sundri (Heritiera fomes) and Giwa (Excoecaria agallocha). The forests provide habitat to 453 fauna wildlife, including 290 birds, 120 fishes, 42 mammals, 35 reptilian and eight amphibian species. Despite a total ban on all killing or capture of wildlife other than fish and some invertebrates, it appears that there is a consistent pattern of depleted biodiversity or loss of species in the 20th century, and that the ecological quality of the forest is declining.

Who are we?

A group of environment-oriented entrepreneurs who made up our minds to help mother nature balance the effect of human calamities on our beautiful earth. We design, orient and try to establish newer methods and models of sustainable development for rural and growing communities in India.

We started off as few like-minded individuals whose common goal was to make life environment-friendly instead of anti-environment. We are pro-nature!

We believe that it will take more than one organization to solve this problem. With mutually beneficial partnerships and associations, these goals can be achieved rapidly and effectively. Lieber Earth believes in working with strong partners who aim to contribute in social and environmental sustainability. So, join this movement by partnering, volunteering, collaborating with us and contribute building a Sustainable Environmentally friendly world together.

Our team

  1. Prasenjit P. – Founder, Director of business strategies.
  2. Varun V. – Co-Founder, Director of Technology and Country head (Switzerland).
  3. Amlanimaulik H. – Co-Founder, Director of collaboration and partnership.
  4. Fena S. – Programme head (West India).

Importance of conservation:

  1. One of the main elements of these natural surroundings is trees, which are considered the best friend of living species. Since the evolution of the country has taken place, humans have started to utilize the resources insufficiently and in large quantities for all their comfort and luxury. The increase of the population in our country has led to a decrease of the number of trees in the forest area. Therefore, there’s an urgent need for the plantation of trees in the country for reserving the resources for the future generation.
  2. There is a major need for immediate reforestation. The balance between lesser oxygen levels and ozone depleted layers needs immediate attention and focus on restoration.
  3. Why not save the wildlife? After all, humans evolved from primates. And we have no right to deprive them of their own environment, their freedom and space. A plantation drive would increase forest cover and help displaced animals get back from the peripheral human habitats back into the core.
  4. Trees do more than just make a photogenic landscape. They are the home to the indigenous wildlife, be it a squirrel, a monkey or an exotic bird. Hence, there is a heartfelt need for them to live and nurture the environment around.
  5. People need to be aware of the extensive positive impact on their lives and the balance of nature in earth. We get almost everything from nature. And it is our duty to protect and preserve whatever is left in our care and control. It cant be a one-man job; teamwork bears consistency and with consistency comes fruit.

Volunteers are required for the following tasks:

  1. Work hand-in-hand for plantation drives in allocated areas.
  2. Provide resources to spread reforestation awareness and its importance.

Typical day

First Day: On your first day of volunteering, you will be escorted to your accommodation by a local coordinator/staff member and allowed to relax and rest.

A typical volunteer day would be as follows:

  • 12.00 PM – 2.00 PM: Lunch break. During this lunch break, you are welcome to eat out or eat at the accommodation.

  • 8.00-9.00 PM: Dinner in the accommodations.

The rest of the days are more or less, the same, except that each day, you are bound to make new memories, share new experiences, meet new people and learn different things.
