Age 18+

In Uganda, Natural resources constitute the primary source of livelihood for the majority of Ugandans. Indeed, the economy of Uganda depends on exploiting of the natural resources and will remain so for the foreseeable future. Management of these natural resources is therefore important and critical to Uganda`s long term development. The main strength of Uganda in the environment sector is that it is richly endowed with the bounties of nature – good soils and biodiversity, simple vegetation cover, attractive climate and abundant water resources. In some areas, these gifts of nature still remain intact, there by availing the opportunity to utilize them sustainably (VISION: 2025).

However, climate change which has started manifesting itself through increased frequency of extreme weather events such as droughts, floods and landslides, is posing a serious threat to Uganda`s natural resources, social and economic development. Climate change has already impacted on a number of communities making them more vulnerable hence the need for effective ecological adaptation.

This program has a lot of gains to all categories of people and professionals. The gains range from stopping climate change and preventing Natural calamities to ending poverty through Resilient livelihood adaptation and livelihood diversification. Volunteers, Internies and Researchers from a wide range of professional categories like Environmentalists, Agriculturalists, Social workers, Conservationists, Economists among others are encouraged to join our activities.
Volunteers work with professionals from each of the above area of specialty to complete any of the following activities;

Training Local Communities On Resilient Livelihoods Adaptation; For purposes of ending poverty, famine and climate change, we have got a number of activities that we have designed to provide alternative sources of livelihood for communities, keeping them away from Environmentally unfriendly farming practices like Wet land reclamation for rice growing, over grazing and deforestation that have dare consequences on human life and the environment. They include; brick making, upland rice growing, Aggro-forestry, Exotic live stock farming, bee keeping among others. The choice is wide, your specialty and choice is your volunteering activity here.

Livelihood Diversification; We clearly understand that the effect of failing to diversify our sources of livelihood is witnessed at increased levels of poverty, famine and environmental degradation. Over reliance on Agriculture to survive has always caused poverty and climate change in Africa. This is because Agriculture has a big toll on Natural Resources like Land and Forests. That is why we have always worked to promote Art and crafts industry, Music dance and drama for women groups, Brick making, Fish farming and micro enterprises. Volunteers works here with community leaders, our staff and other professional to train local communities in the above fields.
