Sahajanand Care, better known as the Sahajanand Children's Care & Resource Centre, is a new program of the Sahajanand Care Project.

Located in Mtwapa, not too far from Mombasa, along the Kenyan Coastline is currently home to over 200 Orphans from various localities all over Kenya.

Next door to this is the Sahajanand Special School, arguably one of the largest disabled schools in Kenya, also a branch of the Sahajanand Project.

Nearby are also a Primary School and Secondary school where the children from the orphanage gain knowledge and skills that are covered by the scope of the Kenyan Education Curriculum.

Other than the knowledge and skills gained through school, the project, also aims to impart valuable soft skills and knowledge that are not covered by the scope of the taught curriculum. Children at the orphanage are taught and encouraged to be responsible citizens of the world. Consciousness and awareness of society, environment, health, cleanliness and hygiene are all some of the things volunteers can get involved with promoting.

At Sahajanand Care, we care about the overall wellness and all round development of the children under our care. Volunteers are therefore encouraged to run and get involved with running extra activities such as:

- Art and Craft Workshops to impart skills that the children could perhaps even use to sustain livelihood

- Music Workshops - where the children could not just be entertained but also learn how to play an instrument

- Sports and Games- that can help the children develop physical strength and endurance as well as other skills including team work, sportsmanship and healthy competitive spirit.

- Talks on awareness and consciousness

- Mind, Body and Soul fitness sessions - which include sessions in yoga, meditation, alternative healing etc

- also help with after school tutoring and help with homework for those students that need and want the extra help

Typical day

Depending on what individual volunteers opt to get involved with, a day at Kilulu would typically involve an early morning start to help the mamas in getting the children ready for school.

Once the children are at school, getting involved with any administrative tasks that are involved with the duties each volunteer takes up.

After school, from 4pm, getting involved with extra activity sessions that could range from helping out with homework, getting involved with sports and play as well as extra activities and workshops for arts, crafts and music.

Free-time activities

Located in Mtwapa, volunteers will have the opportunity to enjoy life living close to the sea whilst also embracing the warm and welcoming Kenyan culture.
With Mombasa Town also within an hours drive from Mtwapa, our volunteers can explore the sites and enjoy a variety of cuisines at the various restaurants in the town.
