At Niños de Guatemala we have one local English teacher per school, is seeking a native English speaker volunteer who can help improve the English Programme This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

English Curriculum Development Coordinator

The English Curriculum Development Coordinator is a very important position at NDG´s schools as we are trying to strenghten our English Program, English is a key resource for the population we work at, because they are very close to Antigua and the could find better and different job in the tourism sector. And also because we would like to give our children valuable resources to be ablo to break the cycle of poverty.

Volunteers will be working directly at our office in Antigua Guatemala or in one of our schools (2 primary schools and 1 middle school), just a few minutes away from Antigua in 2 different towns called Ciudad Vieja and San Lorenzo El Cubo.


  • Collaborate with the English teachers to create course schedules
  • Improve and maintain the curriculum for the English Program
  • Responsible for creation of a full-time English Summer School
  • Responsible for assessing the current state of our English Program and providing assistance and resources for its improvement

We ask for

  • A dynamic and enthusiastic personality who is willing to invest time in our organization
  • Native English Speaker
  • Availability to work voluntarily (during weekly mornings)
  • TEFL-trained English teacher
  • Please bring teching resources of you need something special.
  • At least a 3 month commitment.

Typical day

Schedule will be from 8am until 12:30pm all week days, and some days from 2pm-4pm.

Outside the Volunteer Work, Volunteers can get off the beaten track and experience Antigua’s wonderful, culture, people, and landscapes. There are countless cultural and social activities we can organize for you including Cooking classes, Salsa, Coffee Farm tours, Chocolate making and much more.

We also offer other adventures outside of Antigua, we would love your group to explore some of the best places in Guatemala, for example hike our volcanoes, visit the Lake Atitlan and much more.

Our goal is to help your trip be memorable, meaningful, and empowering.


Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (fluently) and Spanish (intermediate level)
Criminal Background Check
Education Requirements
English at TEFL-trained English teacher level

Resume, passport copy, motivation letter and Application form
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 07:30 - 16:30

The accommodation will be a in homestay with a Guatemalan family.

They will provide you with a private room and a shared or private bathroom.

Food & Beverages

Your homestay will be providing all meals, except for Sundays.

The homestays are able to accommodate any dietary needs under request. The food will be a mix between typical guatemalan food and international food.

Filtered water will be available for all volunteers at the project, NDG office and homestay.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is La Aurora International Airport (GUA) in Guatemala City. We assist you to find cheap flights to Guatemala.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Guatemala provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Guatemala you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Guatemala.

You can volunteer at the project site in Antigua Guatemala/Guatemala between 4 weeks and 48 weeks. Please note that the above shown program fees are estimated and subject to exchange rate fluctuations. Niños de Guatemala will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Crowdfunding Service
Generally, volunteering abroad involves certain costs. In case you need financial support, we will assist you to fundraise your volunteer program in Guatemala.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Niños de Guatemala during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or cash at arrival at the project site.
