Nepal Friendship Society is a non-political, non-governmental, non-profit organization officially registered under the social act with the district administration office of Chitwan and also affiliated to the social welfare council (SWC) Nepal.
Let's help poor and underprivileged children! We need a small team comprised of 3-5 English speaking members each pairing with Nepal Friendship Society members, who will teach English to these underprivileged children who can't afford any private education. They are often also lonely and not properly taken care of by their parents, so the Nepal Friendship Society learning center provides cover and a certain protection to them after their school hours.
Program objectives
The program objectives are met through each child's individual educational plan. These plans are based on a series of learning objectives. The learning objectives include all areas of normal development from seven to ten years of age, for example:
The role of the volunteer
Volunteering with Nepal Friendship Society gives you the opportunity to learn a lot about the Nepalese way of live. You will live a true cultural experience as you are living in direct contact with the local people. Your time and contribution can make a big difference in our community, so don't miss the opportunity to volunteer with us!
Things you could bring that will be useful for our organization
We would be very grateful for educational books (grammar, science, etc.), illustrated books, English novels and children's books. Also very much appreciated are donations of clothes, art supplies, and stationery.
Gifts and souvenirs you could bring to your host family
The Nepali people are very friendly, and they often give gifts to the volunteer on the
day of their departure. If you would like to bring gifts for
your family as well, below are some suggestions
Things to pack
This will vary depending on what non-information activities you want to participate in (trekking, white water rafting, etc.) and how much you need to be comfortable during your placement. With the exception of medicine, first-aid-kit and high-tech trekking gear, you can buy everything that you would need for your placement in Chitwan (likely cheaper than in your home country). Here are a few suggestions:
Nepal is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. You have the opportunity to learn about the Nepali culture. Chitwan is famous for its national park, jungle safaris, jeep drives, jungle walks, lake visits etc. These will be your activities during your off-hours of volunteering.
If you are a sports fan, still you will get the chance to see and share or even play different sports in Nepal.
The location is in Chitwan or Lamjung. You will have a non-attached bathroom and a simple bedroom.
Food is provided 3 times a day including breakfast, lunch and dinner but drinks are not included.
You can arrive any time of the year. We are very flexible concerning in starting your placement any time you arrive.
