We're looking for someone who is a native speaker in English, or as good as, has some experience with working with infants. And is eager to learn about a new culture. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

In 2017 the center has opened a kindergarten. It's situated on the first floor of the center, with a small playground outside the center. We are building a bigger and safer playground on the roof of the center, which will be finished soon. The children are between 3 and 5 years young. This is an important age for their development. It's then that they need the right guidance and proper education to reach their full potential. At young age we want to teach them to believe in themselves, the difference between right and wrong and to respect one another, despite difference in gender, background and religion. Often the boys don't want to work together with the girls. We try to break this mindset by creating games where boys and girls need to work together. This is one of the social issues we face everyday in the camp. The girls feel that they are inferior to boys, and are more inclined to become nothing more than a housewife. Poverty is a big issue in the camp as well. We try to give the children an healthy meal a day and organise frequently a special event. For example, we go out for a picnic with the children or we organise an Iftar during the holy month of Ramadan.

Typical day

The morning classes as we call them, will start at 8am and will be finished at 1pm.

You will be responsible to teach the young ones English in a playful way, through games and songs. It's also important to create some activities, where boys and girls need to work together. These classes are best prepared the day before. After this you will have a brief meeting with the responsible of the center, to talk about your day. If necessary, you will help her with the older students afterwards with the English classes. Their age are between 6 and 16 years old. These lessons will be prepared in advance by the responsible. But she will be open to any suggestions to improve the classes. Around 6pm you will have dinner with the family of the responsible. In the evening you can prepare your lessons. Outside activities, like a picknick, can always be a possibility. You might be expected to join and to supervise on the children. You'll be free on Friday and Saturday. There are plenty of places to discover in Jenin and nearby. Please be aware that Friday is a weekend in Palestine. So every shop or restaurant will be closed.

Free-time activities

  • Experience the hospitality of the local people. Try the Palestinian kitchen. It's delicious!

  • Learn more about the Palestinian culture. Rich in history and creative in art.
