As Arts facilitator your main responsability will be to help preparing and running the "Flowers for Africa" project.
‚Flowers for Africa‘ is a 5 days workshop initiated by the artist Luc van
der Walt and the non-profit organisation ‚Art to uplift‘ which provides
underprivileged children with the therapeutic experience of art. With a group of artists, the children are painting
flowers bigger than themselves on the murals of their communities. The children
are left proud, educated and more confident in themselves and the community is
inspired to make other improvements.
We are running the project every 2-4 weeks. Before the project you help to organize paints and brushes. During the workshop you help and direct the children. On the last day you will help to take a picture of each child with their flower.
In the week after the project you print out lots of photos and organize a ceremony to celebrate the success of the workshop together with the community leaders. The ceremonies include dancing, music and theatre performences performed by the kids and a diashow with photos of the project. The main purpose of the ceremony is to hand out a certificate with a photo of each child with their painted flower. It is a beautifull event that will stay in your mind and heart forever!
On the other days you will help out with our weekly Township Upliftment program. There is always plenty stuff to do and plenty of kids that want to play with you!
Are you adventurous, social, naturally curious and creative and looking to gift some of your time and effort to a South-African community project with underprivileged (kick-ass and hilariously funny) kids, then this might be just the opportunity you were waiting for. Our projects are perfect for anyone looking to expand their mind and learn some new skills.
After breakfast in the morning, you can relax in the garden, go for a swim in the river, go surfing, go to the beach, go for a hike or take a SUP on the river.
