Gardener's - We Want You!

Why we need you - The back & front garden are in some serious need of re-styling. The kids love the front garden, and it would be amazing to design a space for where they can play, plant & reuse. Get them thinking early about what they can do with spaces of their own. With over 200kids coming through the trust each week, they make use of every inch of the school and front garden. Unfortunately, we have not had the time or resource to design something for the kids until now. Come along and make this space yours!

Bukit Lawang Trust are looking for our very own Alan Titchmarsh! This is a very exciting position wherein we are asking the successful candidate to design and create two outdoor eco-friendly/focused spaces; the first, an interactive playground for our children, the second, a chill-out zone for our staff and volunteers. We want these spaces to be created from recycled materials, from tires to cans, paint tins to eco-bricks, in order to teach the local community the beauty in reusing and recycling. On behalf of the Trust, we can provide accommodation and food, in the hope that you are able to raise the funds necessary to achieve your vision and dream. You will, of course, be helped every step of the way. There are no time constraints on this project; we would prefer the perfect garden, to a rushed garden.

Bukit Lawang - the location is second to none. We are on the border of the national park which is home to several critically endangered species, I.e. The Sumatran Orangutan, Elephant & Tiger.. There is no place on the rest of earth like this. It is a true blessing to wake up to the rolling jungle hills!

What is expected? A 'Can do' attitude and willing to tackle these challenges head-on. There can be local support if needed, for instance, buying materials. From us, we will get you on the front foot right away. Can help you organise trekking with our locally sorted out guides, advise on new villages to explore, get you exploring the hot spots in Bukit Lawang and beyond!

If you are interested we would love for you to get in touch! Please send us your experience to date and we will be in touch!

Typical day

The outdoor spaces are all yours!

We want to incorporate recycled goods into the new spaces, and enlighten the locals on what they can do with this 'waste'.

Create a friendly space out front for the kids and students to play in throughout the week and then a chill out area out back of the trust for all volunteers and managers to relax after a hard day!

The days are for you to create! It is your canvas, your vision combined with ours to bring the school back to life and make it a space where the kids, volunteers, and managers can all be mesmerised by the work of you incredible individuals.

There are no set times to what would be required of you to work... If you're creativity flourishes around 2pm - 12pm feel free to work then... Or if in the morning stick with the morning... No weekend work required

Free-time activities

There is plenty to do in Bukit Lawang!

Regular treks into the jungle to get sight of the Sumatran (critically endangered) Orangutan! Quiz Tuesday, Acoustic Wednesdays in the village, Jungle Party Saturday. Or if you just want to eat amazing food and relax by the river there's plenty of unique spots to do this also.
