You will participate in different health institutions working hands-on. Help children in need and do meaningful volunteer work with great social impact! This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
As part of this volunteer program in the health care sector in Peru, you can actively participate in various public hospitals. The staff of this project want to provide patients with a comprehensive attention that will lead to full rehabilitation, although often this is not so easy due to limited financial resources and lack of infrastructure. In addition to the medical care in the hospitals, much emphasis is placed on social welfare and support for patients and families.

As a volunteer, you can work in three different areas:

  1. Public hospital in Cusco
  2. Children's cancer ward
  3. Maternity Center for pregnant women
Your work is very varied and is rewarded daily with many grateful and smiling faces of the hearty Peruvians. This project is dedicated to the vulnerable part of the Peruvian society who can not afford comprehensive medical care.

Join this volunteer program and give support to people in need!

Please note!! There is a donation of US$ 100 that has to be paid on site to the project, not in cash but in as a donation in kind.

Typical day

During your volunteer work you will help doctors and nursing staff at one of the three facilities listed above. You will do a great deal to improve the quality of life of the affected people and give them joy in life again. Depending on your level of medical knowledge, you have the opportunity to put your previously acquired specialist skills in practice. If you do not (yet) have any knowledge in the medical or nursing sector, this volunteer program provides you with an excellent opportunity to get an idea of health care by lending the doctors at the hospital a helping hand. You will also help the nurses with their daily routine tasks.

If you decide to volunteer at the Children Cancer Center, you will have the following tasks, among others:

  • Assistance in performing chemotherapy
  • Teaching children while they can not go to school (elementary school knowledge)
  • Help children at mealtimes
  • Playing with children and distracting them
  • Organizing activities and games for children

If you decide to volunteer at the Maternity Center, you will be asked to:

  • Register new women and record the measures taken per patient
  • Teaching women about health and hygiene
  • Organizing activities of different nature
  • If you have a medical degree or experience in the nursing sector, you may help at deliveries

As a participant in the various volunteer programs, you will be able to gain unadulterated insights into life in Peru and Peruvian society. You can certainly expand your (intercultural) horizon by a great deal. In order for you and the projects to benefit from your stay, good Spanish skills are very important.

Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
