Come to beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico to care for children from low-income families. Your time can make a major difference in the lives of the kids we serve. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Volunteers are an integral part of our work at Centro Infantil de los Angeles. By donating your time, you can make a major difference in the lives of the children we serve. During your time volunteering with us, you will be placed in a classroom where you will assist the teacher with some of the following: Playing with children, Arts & Crafts activities, Leading story-time, Assisting with meals, Changing baby clothes, Brushing teeth after meals, and Assisting with field trips.

Full-time volunteers at the daycare are requested to work Monday-Friday 9:00am-3:00pm with a 2 hour break. At the kindergarten, the schedule is Monday-Friday 8:00am-1:00pm. We especially welcome individuals with a background in nursing, early childhood education, or with Spanish language skills. Casa de los Angeles, our volunteer accommodations, is conveniently located directly behind the daycare and offers rooms with en-suite bathrooms, a full-kitchen/dining room, laundry services, and a lounge.

Typical day

8.30am If it is your first day, meet in the volunteer house patio at 8.30am to walk with the volunteer coordinator to the daycare. Tour the daycare and meet the teacher you will be supporting.

9am Arrive in the daycare. Volunteers need to be in our classrooms ready to help with the preparation of the children for breakfast. Check the timetable to see if it is your turn to take the trays of breakfast to the classrooms. If it is your turn you need to go to the kitchen at 9.30am.

9:30am The children eat breakfast at about 9:30am. Once the children have received their food, you can go to the kitchen if you would like a plate. Then return to your classroom to assist the teacher with morning activities such as arts & crafts, dance classes, taking the children to the playground, or, if you are in one of the younger rooms, simply playing with the little ones.

11.30am-1.30pm During the day all of the children have a naptime. Each classroom has a slightly different time for napping and waking up so you can ask the teacher that you are working with what time you need to return to the classroom.

During this break, the volunteers have some free time. You can always check with the volunteer coordinator or with the kitchen to see if they need any extra help. Otherwise, you can rest, read, go for a walk etc…

1:30pm If it is your turn to take the trays of lunch to the classrooms, please go to the kitchen at 1.30pm. Once you have distributed the trays, you can go to the kitchen if you would like a plate. Volunteers will help the teachers get more food or drink if they need it for their rooms, clean up afterwards, and bring trays back down to the kitchen.

3/3:30pm Children will be picked up between 3pm-4pm. Prior to pick-up the volunteers help the teachers clean up the classrooms and dress the children to go home. At this time you are welcome to finish your day and walk home or to the jardín or do whatever your plans are. Some children do stay later and you are welcome to stay back with them if would like however there is no obligation.

Free time Volunteers have free time during weekday afternoons as well as the weekend. During this time, volunteers are free to explore San Miguel de Allende, relax at the volunteer house, or travel to nearby sights such as historic Guanajuato or nearby hot springs.

Free-time activities

San Miguel de Allende is located in the heart of Mexico. In their free time, volunteers often explore the colonial streets, the artisan market and the cultural spaces and museums.
