Located directly in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the ecological research and education center is dedicated to the sustainable and ecological protection of local flora and fauna as well as the indigenous population. The center combines Western knowledge with traditional practices to ensure the sustainable management of the Amazon. Thanks to the many years of work of the center, the project managers are very experienced and will make your stay as unique as possible. They are happy to share their knowledge with you and you will learn a lot about the sensitive and unique ecosystem of the rainforest.

The aim of the project is to improve the ecological balance in the region through the participation of the local population. Until a few years ago, in the Amazon, they lived on hunting and farming (deforestation), causing irreversible damage to the ecosystem. The center was therefore set up to protect the animals, inform the population accordingly and familiarize them with the techniques of biodiversity management.

Typical day

There is always something to do for our volunteers in the eco-center, and your opportunities in the amazing rainforest are diverse and meaningful.

Your tasks may be:
• Preparing food and feeding the animals
• Conducting behavioral analysis of the animals
• Cleaning the enclosures and facilities
• Data collection
• Maintenance of trails

Normally, your working day starts with the feeding of the animals between 7:30 and 9:00. Afterwards you will work on one of the other projects as mentioned above. In the afternoon at 15:00 or 16:00, you will help with other projects, such as: maintaining the facility, working in the greenhouse, building up or giving English lessons in a local school.

The exact work schedule is coordinated directly with the volunteer coordinator on site. Your working day may differ from the procedure described above.

Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.

Free-time activities

In your free time, there is a wide range of activities to choose from, such as participating in various different sports and cultural activities. Most volunteers go hiking around the center to admire the wildlife and amazing views. You can also explore the surroudings and find tour agencies that offer diverse adventure trips to the jungle or mountains.
