Volunteers help teach mentally disabled children, literacy, numeracy, music , dance and drama etc. and also engage in outdoor activities. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+

Kitega Community Centre welcomes volunteers all year round, volunteers get involved in a number of activities. The Kitega Centre offers education and training to disabled children, through this the children are taught numeracy and Literacy ie reading and writing, Music and dance, and outdoor activities including games and sports.

The children attend the centre 5 days a week, and return home in the evening. Volunteers also engage in home visit activity to assess the progress of the children in the home.

We also partner with local schools, these schools lack resources including teachers, so volunteers can help in teaching English, Maths, and social Studies at partner schools.

Our Community programs focus on building capacity of community members, so volunteers can helps our community members with:
Business skills training.
Functional Adult Literacy
Health Awareness etc/
We also welcome innovative project ideas from volunteers that can change the lives of community members.

Free-time activities

Volunteers can visit nearby tourist sites, these include;
Source or the River Nile in Jinja
Tanda Falls
Sezibwa falls
National parks and Game reserves are also very good to visit over weekends and we can arrange for transport to Bwindi National Park,


Program Requirements

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak English (basic level)
Nationality Restrictions
No restrictions. Helping hands from all over the world are welcome.
Other Skills
An ability to work under minimal supervisio.n
Ability to adapt to different cultures
Friendliness and a desire to make a difference.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 09:30 - 17:00

Included Services

Airport pickup and Drop off: $ 150

Food and General admin Support subsidy: $ 100 (Breakfast, lunch, dinner, tea/coffee)

Costs vary after the first month of volunteering at the Kite

Shalom House - Volunteer House located at the Kitega Centre, hosts all International Volunteers.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Entebbe International Airport (EBB) in Entebbe. We assist you to find cheap flights to Uganda.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Uganda provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Uganda you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Uganda.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Kitega Community Centre during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
