The project

Help out in the small village school. You can help with renovating jobs as well as supporting the teacher in the lessons. Our volunteers run 2 times a week an english class that we prepare on our own. There is more demand as we can handle in the moment!

Our small village school has only one teacher. For costa ricans it is crucial to learn english in order to improve their life as an adult and be able to have a good job to sustain their lifes. Education is the key to fight poverty! 

Voluntary work

As a volunteer you will interact with the kids and teach them english. Also you will help out in jobs around the school like painting or renovating.

You will be working along other volunteers and be supervised by the project managers.

In the afternoon you receive one hour spanish class by a studied costa rican teacher. Once a week you can participate in a 4 hour intense course. The classes are single or in small groups. (Optional you can book more spanish lessons if wanted)

The location

You live on a costa rica working farm that also runs a guesthouse that is situated between the jungle and the little village of Atirro in the costa rican mountains. There are many different people and volunteers around, to make to contacts and plan weekend trips together. 

You will be helping out with cleaning of the community house as well as preparing meals. 

You will be housing in our Volunteer apartment. At the projectsite there are different volunteers involved in different projects. You will be sharing room, kitchen and meals with different people and be able to exchange experiences or take weekend trips together.

Who we are looking for

We expect our Volunteers to be open for new experiences and a new culture. Especially as they work with locals they need to understand that life is different here. We like our Volunteers to be involved, selfmotivated, positive and friendly. Basic Spanish is a plus. We will introduce you into our project and your work. You will receive an detailed introduction and the project managers are onsite to make sure your time will be as you imagined!  

Typical day

Before breakfast we do our house duties as cleaning the pool and prepare breakfast. 

After breakfast you will head to the school to help with projects. This could be helping the teacher during class or doing some renovating jobs like painting etc. 

Twice per week you will teach an english class that you have prepared together with other volunteers. 

After lunch break you can book a spanish class and have the rest of the day of to take trips or enjoy the farm. Together with other volunteers you prepare your dinner and clean up after. 

If you like you can join the afternoons into the farm activities like: grow food in greenhouse, built things, take care of animals. 

Free-time activities

On the weekends you can take trips in the area like: 

  • White Water Rafting at the breathtaking Pacuare river
  • Horseback Riding through sugar fields, Coffeeplantations or the jungle
  • Visit a local fiesta 
  • Coffeetour, learn all about Coffee
  • Monumento Guayabo, on the path of the ancients
  • Trapiche Tour, visit a handcraft sugar factory
  • Jungletour, walk through old forests
  • La Marta, visit a national park
Or take a trip to the beach for the weekend end enjoy the beauty of the caribe!

You will get disounts on entry and tour prices and we help out organizing your activites! 



In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

The dorm room is spacious and you have space in shelfs to keep your things. There is a max of 3 people per room. There are bathrooms with hot water from a tank. The Volunteerrooms are situated in our guesthouse and there are two living rooms, terace, pool with rancho, botanical gardens, greenhouse and beatiful view on the Turrialba Vulcany.

Breakfast will be shared with our Hotelguests and inlcudes: Gallo Pinto (tipical rice and bean dish), fresh fruit like pineapple, watermelon, mango etc., eggs, platains, toasts, cheese, marmelade, coffee and ice tea or juice plus an extra like pancakes etc.

Lunch and Dinner will be made by the volunteers and the shopping is once a week, where volunteers can hand a list with their needs. We like to eat local, fresh and mainly vegetarian. Also there is a farmers market we like to do our shopping. 

We can handle special diets. Anyways dependig your needs you might need to buy your special priducts on your own.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) in San Jose. We assist you to find cheap flights to Costa Rica.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Costa Rica provides security and is a plus to have.
If you are intending to volunteer in Costa Rica you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Costa Rica.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Aventura Doma Natural during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
