As a volunteer you help in our main project which is homework support for the kids. This volunteer program is especially suitable for:

You will be responsible for the direct community work of Intiwawa on the field. In this position you interact with the community including children and parents and assist in the projects on the field: 

  • Education: Homework support, English classes, tutoring in maths and lecture

  • Health: Dentist project, promotion of healthy nutrition and personal hygiene

  • Strengthening sociocultural values: Cultural and artistic workshops

  • Empowerment of parents: Parent’s School, knitting project for the mothers

● The work is part-time (around 30 hours a week)

Typical day

As a volunteer you will be mainly working in our homework support project called "Tareas". This project takes place 5 days a week in the afternoon. You will be responsable for the direct work with the kids,  have lunch with them and later help and support them in doing their homeowrk. Apart of homework support, you will also have some reinforcement classes with the kids in different subjects. 

12- 12:30AM: Gather with the other volunteers to take the bus to San Isidro.

2PM: Arrival at San Isidro (Casa Intiwawa) where the projects take place

2-3PM: Play with the kids, prepare the afternoon and have lunch with the kids

3PM-5PM: Homework support and reinforcement with the kids

5PM-5:30PM: Supervise the kids cleaning their teeth and say good bye to them

5:30-6PM: Clean and orden the house and the yard

6PM: Take the bus back to the center of the city

The volunteers always work together in team and can also support each other. The return journey by bus is also done together. 

Free-time activities

Arequipa is one of the most largest citys of Peru and provides a wide range of possibilities for your free time activities! Sports, as well as cultural events and sightseeing are only some examples. You can also use your free time to travel and get to know the country a little better.

Require­ments

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.
Language Skills
You need to speak Spanish (basic level)

Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 13:00 - 18:30

What's Included

Airport Pickup at Rodriguez Ballon International Airport
If desired, one of our Peruvian team or the volunteer coordinator onsite can pick you up from the airport.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. Please arrange your own accommodation. Food, snacks or beverages are at extra costs.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Rodriguez Ballon International Airport (AQP) in Arequipa. We assist you to find cheap flights to Peru.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Peru provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Peru you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Peru.

It is always possible to start volunteering with Intiwawa. An important requirement is the minimum stay of 3 months. 

The volunteer coordinator in Peru can pick our volunteers up from the airport if this is desired.
