Use your skills & experience to help lend a hand in under resourced medical clinics and hospitals in Fiji. Experience first hand the healthcare challenges faced in Fiji.
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Public hospitals in Fiji are typically under resourced and in need of trained medical staff including doctors, nurses and various other health practioners. NCD’s such as diabetes and heart disease are a significant issue facing Fijians. The skills in need include everything from nursing to general surgeons, pharmacists, dentists, ICU, orthopedics, anesthetists etc.
As a volunteer you’ll receive a short orientation at the hospital or clinic and will initially shadow other doctors, nurses or hospital staff. Depending on your experience levels you may then be given the opportunity to assist with medical procedures. You can also take part in health checks within the local community, as well as educating the local children and adults on healthy nutrition, first aid and exercise.
Location
Nadi is the main tourist hub with lots of back-packers places and night life. It’s also well known for for Denerau Marina where many large 5 star resorts are and western style shopping. Denerau is the gateway to the Fiji islands, which is the most popular choice for most holiday goers’ to Fiji. We’ll likely take you here and show you around as part of the orientation or if you’re heading out to the remote island teaching placement.
Lautoka, located 20 min north of Nadi, is a lovely and safe working class harbour city with many areas to explore (eg. hiking trails, mud pools etc). You will be spending time in the working class areas where the genuine needs exist.
Project Tasks
