Description
ETIV do Brasil is looking for a dedicated SwimTayka Coordinator to teach swimming lessons, drowning prevention and environmental education in beautiful Itacare, Brazil during the months of April and May, 2020. SwimTayka has produced a fantastic curriculum full of of fun and educational activities to support this work, although the Coordinator and the volunteers will also have the freedom to incorporate some of their own educational programming and activities as well. The SwimTayka Coordinator is in charge of managing the entire project and supervising and supporting all of the other volunteers participating.
Main Responsibilities
Build relationships with the community and recruit participants for the classes
Gather parental signatures of all participating children and youth
Purchase any materials necessary to properly
Keep track of the budget and keep in close correspondence with ETIV and SwimTayka staff
Teach and supervise our swimming lessons, drowning prevention and environmental trainings using the SwimTayka curriculum and manual provided
Work closely with the Environment Education Team to offer environmental education to the children partaking in the swimming lessons
Supervise, support and facilitate meetings with any other SwimTayka volunteers you may be supporting
Take attendance, evaluate and document progress and maintain our SwimTayka program database up to date and organized
Keep the swimming materials organized and always put all materials away after every class
Attend ETIV weekly staff meetings and complete weekly staff reports
Build positive relationships with the families to improve attendance, behaviors and ETIV’s community relations
Help us recruit more volunteers to support our SwimTayka Program
Create a SwimTayka Manual for next year's coordinator and volunteers
Requirements
Fluency in English and Portuguese
30 hours of work per week
Swimming Certification, CPR and first aid certification
Strong leadership, social and organizational skills
Patience, flexibility and punctuality
Ability to work during the months of March, April and May, 2020

A typical day for the swimming coordinator includes a meeting with the other teachers to prepare the swimming program as well as attend the swimming class during the day. Afterwards some free time activities can be enjoyed with the other coordinators and volunteers.
Similar to most volunteer lead NGOs, ETIV does require a volunteer contribution, although we are among the most affordable, particularly for our location. This contribution is critical to the sustainability of the NGO and helps covers costs of administration, your insurance coverage and all of the support that we offer to our volunteers.

We do offer housing at our ETIV Volunteer House, which overlooks the beautiful river Contas in the Passagem neighborhood of Itacare. Rental prices at the volunteer house include all bills including gas, water, electricity, and WiFi as well as filtered drinking water, toilet paper and hand soap. There is also a shared kitchen with a large stove and refrigerator/freezer that comes complete with pots and pans, cups, plates, bowls and silverware. However, there is not a washing machine and volunteers are expected to hand wash or they must pay to get their laundry done in town.
Rooms are subject to a $250 (USD) deposit, which is fully refundable as long as you fulfill all of the requirements stated in your rental agreement.
