The project
Volunteering Solutions offer a unique platform for those who have a medical and/or nursing background. Be it a pre-med/pre-nursing or a medical/nursing student, or a certified medical professional, this project is useful for each of them.
While, as a student, one has the opportunity to get the kind of exposure they couldn't get back home, giving their career that much needed boost, and as professionals one can utilize their knowledge, experience, and skills to contribute and assist the local team of doctors. Placements are provided in local hospitals and clinical setup located in Ho Chi Minh City area itself.
Volunteer Work
Volunteers working in the medical volunteer program are paired along with a medical professional such as a doctor or nurse who will guide them to different tasks and activities in their placement.
However, it is to be noted that volunteers will not be involved or allowed to perform any kind of serious operations or other medical procedures during this program. Depending on the volunteer’s level of experience, skills and confidence level they may observe operations, provide assistance in basic procedures.
We provide opportunities for volunteers to work in pediatrics, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy with children and adults who suffer from cerebral palsy, Down’s syndrome, congenital motor system deformity and other disabilities.
Students of Physiotherapy are provided with a very good opportunity to work at the Centre of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation of Disabled.
The medical program in Vietnam provides skilled medical professionals and students the chance to experience a new culture and working environment while developing their specialized medical knowledge, all at the same time.
Volunteers work from Monday - Friday and have their weekends free for sightseeing. Evenings are free for the volunteers and they usually get together and go out for social gatherings, eat out or just relax at the volunteer house.
Weekends are free for the volunteers and you can go for short weekend trips. There is a lot to do in Ho Chi Minh City. You can start with Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh Square, Golden Dragon Water Puppet Theater, Hon Viet - The Soul Of Vietnam, Cu Chi Wildlife Rescue Station and much more. You can also go to Mekong Delta or head out to Hanoi.
The total cost for this program includes;
Volunteers are picked up from Tan Son Nhat International Airport by the local coordinator or representative. Those volunteers who are arriving overland or are already in Vietnam will be picked up at a meeting point decided beforehand.
Volunteers are provided with accommodations in a four storey volunteer house along with other volunteers in Phu Nhuan district of Ho Chi Minh City. Accommodation is shared with other volunteers and the homes have got modern facilities available such as Air Conditioning in the rooms during night, Wireless Internet, TV, Fridge, and Washing Machine.
The location is convenient for bus connections and travelling to the city center and projects.There are four big bedrooms over two top floors with the capacity of hosting upto 24 persons at a time. Normally, rooms are arranged for about 1-4 volunteers per room. In the busy time, the number can be maximum either 8 or 5 volunteers per room in five or three bunk beds respectively. Bedding is provided to the participants and bathrooms are shared per floor with shower (hot and cold water) and toilet.
Volunteers are provided with three cooked meals a day. Local Vietnamese food is provided to the volunteers and the meals are cooked by the local cooks at the house. Meals consist of Rice,noodles, soups, chicken , meats , vegetables etc. Vietnamese cuisine is influenced from different Asian countries such as Thailand, China and Cambodia.
There is one permanent cook and one part time cook who prepare a wide variety of delicious and authentic Vietnamese dishes with locally sourced, fresh, and daily produced ingredients.
Volunteers who have any special diet requirement (vegan/veg etc.) or are allergic to any specific type of food item, can mention the same in their application and it will be taken care of.
