The project
Hospitals and health care can be really different from what you experienced in your home country. Usually the access to health care depends on a person’s income, since insurance is not common. It can be really interesting for interns and volunteers to experience the clinical routine in a country like Tanzania since resources are limited. The Meru District Hospital is a large governmental hospital with a capacity of 110 in-house patients. In an average day, 200 patients are provided for. The hospital covers all areas of modern medical care. Among others there are pediatrics, HIV/Aids, malaria, tuberculosis clinic, eye and dental care, mental health and physiotherapy, maternity ward and over 1,000 operations are performed annually.
