Help to protect prestine landscapes in the Patagonian wilderness. Support this conservation efforts to secure our planet for future generations.
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Patagonia always manages to enchant its visitors. Patagonia is simply a fascinating place on earth. It awaits its visitors with pristine landscapes, stunning mountains, boundless sky, and thrilling animals.
The joint nature protection and tourism initiative is located on a land that very few people have ever visited. Ancient evergreen woods, crystal clear rivers and lagoons, snow-capped mountains, glaciers, and incredible fauna define this region. Volunteering in this environment conservation project will transport you thousands of years back to a time when nature was still wild in the fullest sense.
The creators of the nature reserve were so taken aback by the beauty of this area that they resolved to make it their life's work to preserve it for future generations. They've been buying properties along the Escondido River and surrounding the lake of the same name since 2010.
The Quelat National Park is connected to this area. With the Chilean Forestry Authority, agreements have been reached on how the region can be maintained and made available for sustainable and controlled tourism. Hiking routes, small bridges, stairs, viewing platforms, and a camp with renewable energy for up to 6 tourists have all been developed in recent years with minimal environmental damage.
The endeavor to protect the environment is still in its early stages. Volunteers assist in the long-term development and maintenance of the nature park. As a volunteer, you should not be frightened of spending your days outdoors, working hard, and living in a secluded but breathtaking location. Volunteers who want to work hands-on and don't mind getting messy are needed for this project.
On-site, your specific work schedule will be determined based on current needs, the amount of volunteers, and your personal talents.
The volunteers work approximately 5 hours per day, 5 days a week. The work schedule is dependend on weather and number of volunteers. Usually work is done for a couple of hours during the morning with a long break and than again a couple of hours in the afternoon.
Volunteers can spend their leisure time exploring the beautiful scenery that surrounds them and participating in outdoor activities.
The tasks can include:
- Field and forest work
- Building hiking trails
- Creating signs
- Working in the vegetable garden
- Clearing fields
- Feeding and caring for animals (horses, sheep)
- Assisting guests and tourists (January and February)
Note: The tasks may vary. They depend on factors such as number of volunteers, weather, season, current needs of the project, as well as self-motivation. Not every volunteer may be fully involved in all these tasks.
The nature reserve is surrounded by a dream setting with a distinctive alpine environment, making it an ideal location for anyone enjoying nature. Hiking routes, lakes, rivers, glaciers, and outdoor sports including kayaking, horseback riding, and sport fishing are all available.
The conservation project is located on the border with Argentina, and the next village, Lago Verde, in the province of Coyhaique, has a population of only 300 people. Patagonia is also known for its isolation, ancient traditions, and diverse cultural history. It's as if you've traveled back in time; the clocks in Patagonia appear to have stopped ticking.
The volunteer project allows participants to live and work in a extraordinary location in the Patagonian wilderness for a period of time.
