A nursing internship abroad with YearOut Africa will help shape you into the nurse you have the potential to become. Our internships are educational in nature and will help you develop the confidence to take on any challenge the wards present when you get home.

When you return to your nursing studies you’ll be seen as a strong and competent nursing student, earning you recognition from your peers. And with a nursing student internship on your resume, employers will be fighting to get you in the door.

Are you an already a practicing professional nurse? We can create an internship for you too. We customize every element of your experience. With that in mind, there is almost certainly a YearOut Africa's placement with your name on it.

You might be a graduate in-between college and your first job. Or maybe you've been practicing for a couple of years, but want to do something a bit different.

Either way, you can choose the region in Ghana you want to travel to, the kind of hospital you want to attend, and the departments you want to get experience in.

An overseas healthcare internship is a clinical placement you undertake in a fast-paced, under-resourced hospital in a low-income country.

You’ll see a healthcare system totally different from your own, and get experience with conditions and practices you’ve never seen before as well experience with global health.

Typical day

Your typical day and responsibilities will depend largely on your experience, but may include some of the following:

  • Going for ward rounds with doctors to examine cases and determine the next line of action, following up cases and ensuring that proper medication is dispensed, helping to take patients’ histories.
