we need volunteers who can mentor the orphans at jump and smile orphanage and also to teach them simple skills like language, arts, dress making, sports e.t.c
This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
The importance of this program is to help improve the current and future status of the children at the jump and smile children orphanage. the children herein were orphaned at tender ages and the only home they know is the orphanage. Therefore, our aim is to avail any necessary and available opportunity so that they can have a normal life like other children that live with their parents. The opportunities are made possible by volunteers and donors who share their skills, time and materials with the children. Teaching skills to the children will help them in future life as they can use it to build their economic life. such skills may include various arts, sports, knitting and dress making, Language, agricultural activities among others. Spending time with them makes them feel loved and helps them forget the loneliness of not being with their parents. Mentoring the children also gives them hope, especially those living with HIV/AIDs
Basically, it's about building the future of the children and giving them hope.
The first batch or orphans was enrolled in 2012. It's main aim is to provide shelter, food, clothing education, medical attention and and other life support necessities for the children. The objective was to strive to break the cycle of poverty , abuse and ignorance and help the orphaned children become positive and self-fulfilled members of the society with opportunity and hope for future.
The children's education needs are addressed through school attendance. ACEF hopes to support them through the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. In this case, a volunteer can play role by assisting the children with their assignments in the evening and during holidays. He/she can also help build their academic performance by further teaching them english language which is the main language used in the curriculum.
Regular counselling sessions are also done to the children to develop them emotionally and psychologically.
Another project is also being established by ACEF next to the center and involves an animal orphanage. the animal orphanage is aimed at generating future income to help sustain the children's needs. It will involve introducing attractive features like wild animals and birds, children play stations and a conference hall.
Therefore, Some of the volunteer activities include:
- Offering guidance and counselling to the children
- teaching English and/or Mathematics to the children
- Teaching simple skills and techniques to children for future sustainability
- spending time and sharing love with the children
- Participating in other activities at the center such as farming, washing and cleaning
- Taking part in the ongoing preparation of the animal orphanage site
Daily activities may differ slightly between days when the children are on holidays and when they are in school.
During school days, the following daily activities take place
6.00-6.30 AM: Breakfast at the volunteers house
6.30-7.00 AM: Seeing the young children off to school
8.00-12.20 PM: Taking part in other ACEF's activities like the animal orphanage project, the farm, the kitchen, etc.
12.30-2.00 PM: lunch break
2.00-4.00 PM: volunteers personal activities
4.00-4.30 PM: Guiding the young children back after school
After school activities:
- playing games,
- Assisting the children in washing and cleaning duties
- Interacting with children and teaching them new skills
- Assisting the children with school assignments and offering them extra english and maths lessons
- Taking evening meals with the children, among others.
This activities are subject to change based on one's preferences. Most of the interactions take place during holidays and weekends when the children are not in school. therefore the volunteer can maximumly engage the children in activities. During the holidays also, most of the children visit their relatives and come back when the school opens. The ones left mainly are those in the final years in primary or secondary schools because they need extra time to prepare for their final exams.
During the Holidays also, volunteers may spend the time to tour different parts of the country and view various sites such as the Kentan Cost, Mount Kenya, various animal orphanages, homestays among other activities
During their free time, volunteer can go for optional activities within or outside the organization. some facilities available within the organization include sports, mainly soccer, basketball and baseball and swimming. Shopping is also possible either at the nearby shopping malls or at the larger shopping centres at the capital city, Nairobi.
Other leisure time activities include;
- Mount Kenya tour where volunteers enjoy Hiking, mountain climbing and sport fishing
- Maasai mara tour where they enjoy maasai tours and experience the life at Maasai village with very unique cultures
- Trip at the Kenyan coast to enjoy the ocean view, deep sea diving, dolphin watching, mamba village and the swahili dishes

Also, ACEF organizes homestays for volunteers whereby they get a chance to live with a Kenyan host family for a few days to learn their day to day activities and routine and compare the same with families in their own countries. They get a chance to enjoy kenyan meals, learn kenyan traditions and also the fireworks.
