International Napoli Network (INN) is a cooperative that partners with local public schools and NGOs to provides resources that support health and welfare, environmental conservation, education. Volunteers and interns are placed with partner NGOs and we support you and our partners during your placement.

Even if Legal Age in italy is 15 years old before leave school, the city of Naples has a high student drop-out rate (around 20%) with many children choosing to leave their education early in favor of finding work on the streets, where they can find jobs under the table or connected with criminal organizations activties. Families won't be persecuted if their sons are not attending schools, and some of the families want stimulate them enough to keep studying, sometimes they prefer them bring some money at home.

It's not just a matter of families and urban poverty: also the public system is failing in providing effective an stimulating programs and activties. In some areas of Naples, public schools do not have the means to offer extra-curricular activities to students or alternative applied ways of teaching. As a volunteer on the Teaching English project in Italy, you will help address this gap by either assisting local teachers during the day at a public school, organizing activities and workshops to help children improve their English language abilities.

This program aims also to work on the Italian problem of the low level of the English language, the incapacity of communicating with different cultures. This program, thanks to the fact that students can meet people from different countries and cultures is like a kind of new air in the school which can excite them and improve their motivation and the efforts they put into study English. Thanks to the help of volunteers they can realize that English is not just a subject in school, but a way to communicate with people coming from other parts of the World and a fundamental in get opportunities of explore the world or get a job.

This project is well suited to volunteers who are passionate about working with young learners to help improve their English language skills, while also developing their interests and life ambitions.

On the Teaching English project, you will be placed in a public school in Naples where you will assist teachers in their daily English classes, and those placed on the after school program will provide extra-curricular English workshops for children aged from 4 to 18 years-old. 

You can expect to follow the local school curriculum and either assist the local teacher on your own or alongside another volunteer.


Typical day

After the initial orientation, you will have usually a morning shift at your placement and will work for approximately 4 hours per day. Please note that start times and daily workload depends on the school. 

You may therefore plan daily activities which could include sightseeing, shopping or taking Italian language lessons.

Free-time activities

Volunteers have the weekends free. Italy is universally recognised for its history, art, culture, cuisine and natural beauty, so there is absolutely no shortage of things to see and do while in Naples or further afield in Italy! Naples has many UNESCO World Heritage sites and volunteers can fill their free time visiting the many historical sites and attractions, tasting the amazing cuisine, sipping espresso in the many café bars or simply exploring parts of Naples by wandering through the beautiful alleys. Rome, home to the Colosseum, Vatican and Sistine Chapel, is just an hour from Naples by train, and the ancient ruins of Pompeii or the gorgeous island of Capri are also just 45 minutes away. Nature lovers can hike the nearby Mt. Vesuvius and visit the beautiful Almalfi Coast to complete the “Walk of the Gods”. Volunteers staying for longer durations, or who wish to travel before or after their program, can visit areas further afield in Italy including; Venice, Cinque Terre, Florence, Milan, Pisa and so much more! Volunteers can make travel arrangements once in Naples, with the advice and guidance of our local staff.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

This project is well suited to volunteers who are passionate about working with young learners to help improve their English language skills, while also developing their interests and life ambitions.
Essential skills include an open-minded attitude and the desire to help others and learn from them. Knowledge of Italian is an asset, but not mandatory.
Time Commitment
Your helping hand will be required on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 08:00 - 13:00

What's Included

Services by International Napoli Network

Accommodation, self catered breakfast, support and supervision by local team are included in the fee. Also a work insurance is provided by the organisation. 

If you would prefer to arrange your own accomodation, we provide extra discount and a customized estimate.

Accommodation

The accommodation is located in the central area of the historical centre of Naples, close to all facilities, metro stations, restaurants, cafés and shops. It consists in dormitory style rooms for maximum 4 volunteers, a gendered bathroom, common kitchen or kitchenette and a garden.

What's NOT included?
Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees. An airport pickup isn't included within the program fees either.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Naples International Airport (NAP) in Naples. We assist you to find cheap flights to Italy.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Italy provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Italy you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Italy.

This program is not available during July and August and during Christmas time (December 20th - January 6th). We won't accept volunteers for start dates on December as the minimum period is 4 weeks.

When the program is open  we suggest volunteers to join the program on mondays. Volunteers who can't join the program in those days are still accepted.

The organization charges its fees in EUR. The price table in USD is subject to currency fluctuation. International Napoli Network will let you know about the final price during your application process.
Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with International Napoli Network during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
