Cities in the Andes Regions of Bolivia are suffering from high concentrations of pollutants and the increasing demand and logging of
wood lead to massive deforestation around those cities. To face these problems and find a sustainable solution for inhabitants of the
cities and in rural regions, our partner launches reforestation-programs in the countryside around Cochabamba. Together with groups
of high school students or farming families and local communities, seedlings and trees are planted to restore the region’s green lungs,
with educational effects on the students and the countryside population. The idea is also to establish sustainable productive forest and
agroforest-areas to open up new economic perspectives for local families. In the last years they succeeded in planting 200 hectares
Today you have to skip Spanish classes, because your project planned a work trip to a village in the countryside of Cochabamba. You meet your team at 8:00 at the office and your colleagues already loaded the pick up truck with seedlings and young trees.
The farmer families already expect you at their village, because the whole event was promoted weeks before. You hand out seedling to the farmers to plant at their fincas but there is also an community area of the village, that is designated for reforestation. The local school has worked the las week to prepare the terrain and the whole event turned into a little fiesta. There is food and drinks and the school kids prepared information about reforestation. Everyone is helping and is digging and planting trees. You know you will get there again after a week to see if the plants are watered correctly. You show them in which distance the trees have to be planted. After Lunch everyone’s hands are dirty and you are invited to the school for the kids presentations about the importance of reforestation.
In the afternoon you head back to the city and you find that you don’t have much energy left editing the photos you took earlier. Especially because there is a concert at the Jazz Café you don’t want to miss out. After taking a shower at the volunteer house, you decide to grab Dinner in the street and have a Choripan from your favorite street vender.
