Serve in either a home for children with mental and physical disabilities, or at a school that offers special education for children with disabilities, This volunteer program is especially suitable for:
Age 18+
Singles
Couples
Families
Groups
50+

Volunteers will have time to organize creative and recreational activities, take the patients for walks, and help the nurses with serving meals. All of the children are from severely underprivileged homes. Therefore, the children stay at the homecare day and night, where parents and family can come to visit them.

The children at the project require a lot of care, attention and most importantly, companionship and love. Since the children with physical and mental disabilities don't have access to the care they need, they often remain completely dependent on their families for the duration of their lives.

Volunteer tasks:

  • Recreational activities (yoga, music, arts, crafts)
  • Helping children with homework
  • Playing, dancing, painting, and singing with the children
  • Helping with day-to-day tasks at an institution
  • Building up the self-esteem and confidence of the children
Volunteers can provide a positive influence in the homecare providing a resource that they would otherwise not have access to, you can give people with disabilities a chance to gain the confidence and skills they need to grow into independent adults.

We highly recommend staying with a family; that way you will also learn the Peruvian way of life, meet local people, eat typical food, speak the language (Spanish) and engage in local customs and traditions.

Volunteers will be sharing bathroom and common areas with other volunteers and members of the family.
