Cambodia’s infrastructure is extremely poor. Many building are still not rebuilt after the long years of civil war. Much of facilities such as schools, hospitals and orphanages are poor and not suitable for use. Volunteers use their energy to help improve the buildings for local community. The group can choose to work Phnom Penh or Siem Reap.

Phnom Penh is the capital of Cambodia with a population of about 1.5 million people. Phnom Penh is a very international city, with a lot of diplomats, travelers and international NGO-workers so you will find a lot of western restaurants, bars. Despite the international influence, Cambodian culture remains strong and it evident in almost all aspects of the city. 

Walk around the different markets, try the food of the food stalls at the street or just walk around the streets, there is really always something to explore. Siem Reap set in North West Cambodia, Siem Reap is best known for being home to the incredible Angkor ruins with the magnificent Angkor Wat as the focal point. While the complex is surely one of the globe's most amazing historical sites, the Siem Reap province is also home to an array of other ruins, such as Beng Mealea and Bantaey Srei.

Typical day

Volunteers work four to six hours a day towards improving the atmosphere through exterior and interior artwork, painting and renovations. Volunteers are also encouraged to paint educational and colorful designs to brighten up the building. The tasks depend on the construction need and the skill of the volunteers.

Free-time activities

Every volunteers will get the weekend off. There are many places volunteers can visit at the weekend including the Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Wat Phnom, National Museum, Killing Field... Volunteers can also travel by bus to visit many provinces at weekend or during national holiday such as to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat, the famous historical place or Sihahouk Vill and Kampot to see beaches. Phnom Penh is a very international city, you will find a lot of western bars, supermarkets offer western articels, and especially the riverside is the spot for diplomats, travellers and international ngo-workers. But of course, you will also find the Cambodian Culture everywhere in the city. Walk around the different markets, try the food of the food stalls at the street or just walk around the streets, there is really always something to explore. Phnom Penh is a good base for trips through the country as it is very central.

In order to join the program you need to be at least 18 years old on the program start date. There might be exemptions if you can provide the permission of your legal guardian(s) or if your are accompanied by your parents.

Airport Pickup at Phnom Penh International Airport

One of our team will wait you at the airport. When you arrived at the arrivals area please look for a sign with your name written on it. We will bring you to our volunteer house and usually it take around 30 minute from the airport. On the way our team will explain you about safety and what prepare for tomorrow orientation.

Accommodation

The Volunteer House is located in the center of city and are within minutes of many of the major tourist attractions. The Volunteer House has Wi-Fi, computers, bicycles , and laundry machine. Most volunteers share room with other volunteers, however, private rooms can be booked for those that desire.

Food & Beverages

You will be provided with three meals a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner at each of our volunteer house. Khmer cuisine shares many commonalities with the food of neighboring Thailand and Vietnam and commonly contains rice, vegetables, or noodles. Breakfast typically includes coffee, tea, and juice with bread or eggs. Lunch and dinner meals typically consist of rice, noodles, soup, vegetables, beef, fish, pork and fruit.

Visa, flights, travel insurance or vaccinations are NOT included in the program fees.
Flight Tickets
The nearest airport is Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) in Phnom Penh. We assist you to find cheap flights to Cambodia.
Travel Insurance
Going abroad is an adventure and it is always best to be prepared. Sudden illness or injury, cancellation or theft - a travel insurance for Cambodia provides security and is a plus to have.
Vaccines
If you are intending to volunteer in Cambodia you should seek medical advice before starting your social journey. Check your required vaccinations for Cambodia.

Deposit (15%)
The deposit is simply to reserve your volunteer placement. Payments are handled by PayPal, our trusted global payment provider. If you don't have a PayPal account, you can also pay using a credit card.
Final Payment (85%)
Your final payment will be agreed with Asia Volunteer Network during the application process. Common solutions are either via bank transfer or a cash payment at the project site.
