The program
This inspiring teaching project is located in what has been described as the heart of Bali. Ubud is a serene town, famous as a self-awareness center and surrounded by rain-forest and terraced rice paddies, and dotted with Hindu temples and shrines. A mecca for those on a spiritual journey, Ubud has a thriving tourism scene. Unfortunately, while the tourism dollar keeps the town humming, there is still poverty among its people, with much help needed to teach and support its youth. As a tourism hot-spot, those seeking employment in Bali find that English is an essential skill, one that they must speak fluently and confidently. This program supports this need by providing volunteers to work with local children and help set the foundations for a better life. Located in a traditional rural village just outside Ubud, volunteers will teach students in a classroom made from locally harvested bamboo, in a tropical forest setting surrounded by banana, coco, coffee and paw paw trees. This project is a great way for international volunteers to learn more about the Balinese people and culture, teach those in need and spend time exploring this magical location.
Goals of this Project:
Volunteers on this wonderful program will be setting their students up with the skills for a happier life. The ability to communicate in English has become fundamental in the lives of the Balinese, where most of the economy is now largely dependent on international tourism. Volunteers in this magical setting will co-teach with another volunteer or a local English teacher. A fully developed teaching program has been developed for volunteers to follow, designed around speaking and listening, with the development of student’s vocabulary key. Volunteers are encouraged to be fun and outgoing in their classes, and to incorporate singing, art, music, games and other activities to make the student’s learning experience as enjoyable as possible. With the knowledge and confidence to partake in conversational English with foreigners, these children will have the tools for a brighter future. It is recommended that volunteers research teaching English as a second language techniques and creative ways to do so before embarking on this epic adventure!
Volunteers will contribute in a number of ways and can expect to undertake the following tasks:
Volunteers work Monday to Thursday, generally for around 2hours each day, allowing plenty of time to explore this amazing region. While we ask that volunteers are flexible a typical daily schedule is likely to go something like this:

Lunch can be taken at a local eatery.
Volunteers can also use this time to prepare lessons and activities.

In many ways, Ubud is considered to be Bali's cultural heart. Located in the cool mountains, just one hour's drive north of the airport and the resorts of southern Bali, this traditional country town and flourishing traditional crafts centre is home of one of Bali's royal families. Around Ubud the surrounding villages like Campuhan, Penestanan, Peliatan and Batuan specialise in crafts and woodcarving which are sold to the many tourists who visit the tropical island each year. There are hundreds of shops selling antiques, woodcarvings, crafts, textiles, paintings and jewellery as well as some of the best art museums in the country, dozens of art studios, an excellent local craft market and galleries – making Ubud a truly remarkable place to be a Love Volunteer!
Upon arrival into Denpasar you will be met by a representative of our local team, taken to your accommodation and introduced to your hosts. The rest of the day is free to settle in to the new environment.
On Sunday an orientation session takes place which covers local and regional customs, transport, rules and recommendations and, of course, what to expect from your volunteering placement. This is a great opportunity to get to know your hosts and ask any last questions you may have.
Volunteers who choose to join our programs in Ubud are accommodated in a local family guesthouse located in the vibrant center of Ubud, close to many wonderful eateries and yoga studios. Although centrally located the guesthouse is in a quiet and peaceful location overlooking a beautiful tropical garden and valley and provides a genuine Balinese experience.
Rooms are twin-share and split by gender. Each room has its own Western style bathroom with shower. Ceiling fans are provided for comfort in the summer months and bed linen and towels are provided so volunteers need only bring their personal toiletries.
Wi-Fi is freely available at the House so it's easy to stay in touch with friends and family.
Breakfast and an early dinner are provided at the House daily whilst lunch is an opportunity to try the local fare at any of the many of the eateries within easy reach of the house and the program. International offerings are also available.
This program is paused due to COVID-19
