Witness marine life as you’ve never seen before as the 15 Day Shark & Marine Conservation EduTour will plunge you into adventure, allow you to learn about rare marine life, and become one with the ocean!

About 2.5 hours from Cape Town, South Africa, the project site is home to the research project you’ll be completing during your two week stay. Each day is full of learning opportunities, aquatic adventures, rare scenic views, and unique wildlife.

These aquatic research excursions will either take you beyond your comfort zone or right into your sweet spot! Adrenaline junkies and marine lovers alike will find everything they need in an Educational Vacation to have the trip of a lifetime on the 15 Day Shark & Marine Conservation EduTour.

The first few days will begin the tour with an introductory lecture and a chance to get up close and personal with the ocean life! A cage dive in the harbor, an Ethical Handling and Angling Workshop, and a Research Boat Trip to the Local Penguin and Sea Bird Sanctuary are all part of a magical first three days!

The end of week one has two more cage diving boat trips that bring you within feet of majestic marine life, a snorkeling survey for the research project, and a trip to beautiful Hermanus for exploring and learning!

Week Two of the 15 Day Shark & Marine Conservation EduTour starts off with a Day Trip to Cape Agulhas (the southern point of Africa) and Trip 4 on the cage diving boat for more ocean life observation! Dive into your surroundings on wonderful excursions like Fat Biking, Shopping Trips, and a Wine Farm Tour!

Spend time on out on the water on the Research Boat with a Catch and Release Survey, and also create a Video Survey of the ocean life to reflect on your research!

Day 1: Arrival in Cape Town
  • Arrival in Cape Town at any time.
  • Accommodation: In Cape Town.
  • Evening: Free time to settle into your new surroundings.
DAY 2: Transfer To Project Site & Introductory Lecture
  • Morning: Pick up from accommodation in Cape Town early in the morning & transported to Project Site.
  • Arrival at project site 2.5 - 3 hours later.
  • Shown room & accommodation.
  • Lunch.
  • Afternoon: Introductory Lecture - Research project objectives, project methods, equipment needed, checklists, safety in the field, data collected, data entry required.
  • Evening: Welcome braai/dinner.
DAY 3: Cage Diving Boat & Trip to Shop/Store
  • Morning: Trip 1 on Cage Diving Boat. 
  • Lunch. 
  • Afternoon: Ethical Handling & Angling Workshop, Safety on Research Vessel Briefing, Trip to the shop/store. Evening: Free time to relax.
DAY 4: Research Boat & Trip to Local Penguin & Sea Bird Sanctuary
  • Morning: Trip 1 on Research Roat - Catch & Release Tagging Survey & Video Survey.
  • Lunch.
  • Afternoon: Analysis of Video Survey & a trip to local Penguin & Sea Bird Sanctuary.
  • Evening: Free time to relax.
DAY 5: Cage Diving Boat & Beach Clean Up
  • Morning: Trip 2 on Cage Diving Boat.

  • Afternoon: Beach clean up & sorting of debris collected.
  • Evening: Free time to relax.
DAY 6: Data Entry & Snorkelling Survey
  • Morning: Data Entry & Trip to local Big Cat Sanctuary.

  • Afternoon: Snorkelling Survey 1, plus Facebook Posts & Blog Posts.

DAY 7: Cage Diving Boat & Trip to Hermanus

DAY 12: Data Entry & Snorkelling Survey
